Sounds like same problem I am having. My MP600 won't print text. When I print word documents or excel files
it just fires out blank pages even though it sounds like it is
printing. I tried printing an email from GMAIL account and though it
printed the gmail logo at the top of the page none of the text of the
email was printed. I have plenty of ink in all cartridges.

Installed new black cartridge and ran normal test for new cartridge and only color will print. Black will not print. Not sure old cartridge was devoid of all ink but printing lines were streaked and unreadable. Uninstalled printer and reinstalled work line could not be cancelled and printer was in use stage could not remove.

Just put in a new black cartridge, but no black ink enters the paper...

I cannot get any print in black I think its because it was out of ink for a while and has dried out and needs the heads cleaning, but the technical assistance on epson is rubbish, even the web page is defective! There are bits missing . It tells you to clean the heads then doesn't tell you how! I haven't found the instructions yet!

Does not print black ink. On the bottom command line the yellow cup is spilling out and I can't open the color block to correct.

    not printing black

  • Anonymous May 22, 2008

I don't know if it is because of downloaded update or what, but I cannot print black text any longer. Very strange. It does not matter if it is PDF, excel, word, web, open office or email.

    Anyone here of anything?

Sounds very science fiction. The easiest thing to do is to uninstall the printer(+drivers), and reinstall. Or at least it's the easiest thing for me to think of ... ;] Do you get this only with text, or also with images?

Go to start, settings, printers and faxes, in the printers window, locate your printer, (make sure it is ticked as default printer), right click on the printer, select "printing preferences" check all the settings, if in doubt, click the "restore defaults" button.

If this is from an epson printer then it is very likely that it has just been set to "black ink only" to change this go to printers and faxes in control panel (if your using windows) right click the printer, properties then printer properties at the bottom right, another screen opens and you should ave Advanced somewhere within that screen click that and in there you should see a tick box for "black ink only"

Hope this helps

Check your other colours. Anything other than a True Type Font is printed in colour shaded with black, so it sounds like you have a problem with yellow and cyan. Either the ink cartridges are out or the print heads have a blockage.
If the cartridges are not empty or v low, try sitting the print head over a folded paper kitchen towel damped with hot water for 10 minutes. Remove it and try your diagnostic again.

Printer not printing properly

When you changed the cartridges, the printer automatically prits a test / calibration page. This page must be placed in the scanner, then you have to press the "scan" key (the green one). It will calibrate an align the system. Then you'll be able to print.

Printer prints in color but has gaps

Have you tried a new colour cartridge? This is a classic sign that the cartridge may be low on ink. When printing text, assuming you are printing black, it is likely that the black cart is doing most of the work so the gaps are insignificant. You could try printing text in several different colours. If the colour cartridge is low, you'll find that some colours may be ok but others may have gaps.

Best to try a new cart if you have one.
