Same thing happens to mine. Try opening the battery door and pushing in on the battery a few times until it starts operating. It's a loose connection in there and a sign that you should send it back in if its still under warranty. At least you will be able to hopefully get it working again at least temporarily. I wish there was a more permanent solution.

When turn camera on screen is black when i take a pic the pic comes out black also

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

You didn't mention the type of battery used but if they are rechargeable, one bad cell of three or four can cause this. If a proprietary battery pack, have it checked if you don't own a multimeter. I've seen this behavior on each camera we have owned.

When I turn on the camera. the lens will not extend. The screen
will not show anything but a message, " date & time are already
programmed". No menu item works. Pictures cannot be taken.

Lens on C533 is stuck

Fraid it is dead - The lens drive is shot. Not an economic repair I am afraid- check out Kodak of course but a new camera will be a better bet.
