My WD25001032 burned up the hard drive PCB. Help.

My WD25001032 burned up the hard drive PCB and the power supply and the power supply to the hard drive are all burned. I have pictures on the drive and I got replacement PCB, and I installed it on my computer but all it does is just spin up and spin down, please help. Can I just hook up the 250Gig drive to my computer? How do I get my PC to see the drive?

SOURCE: External hard drive fell off table now ''drive not found''

Hi,

these drives are a bit delicate and do tend to damage easily when dropped. You may just have knocked a cable loose, could have damaged the usb controller board or may have damaged the HDD.

If you're not concerned about warranty, you can slide the shell off of the body of the drive with a little prying around the back edge(around the metal end with all the plugs. It can be put back when you're done but you will likely leave some tool marks on it.

Once you have it open you will see the HDD mounted along the cases length, at one end it has two small cables attached. ensure they are snug, then follow each to it's other end and ensure they are snug, the check the small circuit board running perpendicular to the HDD to ensute the pinned end it securely attached to the larger ciruit board.

Test the drive, if no luck the next step involves buying a new drive enclosure. Go to you local computer store and ask for a 3.5" SATA Hard Drive enclosure. Then finish disassembling the Western Digital, removing the HDD and placing it in the new Enclosure, be careful not to touch the circuit board attached to the bottom of the hard drive.

Once you've installed the HDD in the new enclosure plug it into your computer and power it up. If this works your done, if not the HDD may be finished.

Still if this doesn't work you can send the HDD for recovery to a pro, try Armor-IT Data Recovery in Canada, they have good rates and are listed on FixYa's directory.

Hope this helps FixYa

SOURCE: need power supply spec's for this WD25001032 hard

If you can procure it you need a "Wattac" AC adapter
model: BAO362ZI-8-A01 (made in China)

Otherwise you need a 12 volt 2 Amp. power pack with positive on centre contact & 2mm pin hole.

I am trying to aquire a user manual for a wd25001032 can anybody please help me.

Try Western Digital's website.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Western Digital Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for manuals throughout the site.

My drive broke down a while ago and I identified it as a fault in the power supply PCB to the hard drive. I took the hard drive out of the case and bought. SATA to USB with power supply kit but nothing...

Try plugging the internal drive in directly to a SATA connector, no USB. If the drive PCB is the original, and the drive is spinning, and still does not identify or accessible, then likely cause is not the PCB. If you want the data from this, consult a data recovery service that has cleanroom facilities.

Freecom Classic SL hard drive stopped working

Probable reason for failure of a disk is power, if the power is adequate may be some of its components like inductor, diodes in series with the power line are opened, check for any burn marks on the pcb

What voltage and amperage the western digital wd25001032-001 will work. I lost the original power supply and need replacement.

Mine has a 12V 4A power supply. This is not generally available as a generic replacement, due to the high current required. Good luck!

St3500320as bios not detect,i am using it as external hdd, once i used wrong power supply (original 12V, wrong 19V)and after that it was no detectable  in bios anymore, i can see some places on board...

I'm not sure I understand you correctly but this is what I think.
You tried to use the drive in an external case and the power supply was 19v. The drive really needs 12v. When you put it back inside a PC the bois does not detect it.

Id say it is destroyed. Do not wast you time with it.
If you think it is burned then it probably is.
