Easyshare 721 battery problems

Got a Kodak Easyshare 721 camera that came with non-rechargable batteries, but they lasted a LONG time. I don't have a dock or recharger. When they finally died, I put regular AA batteries in that were dead in a matter of minutes. I bought rechargeables, charged them fully, and they never lasted more than 4 or 5 minutes on a full charge. Thought maybe the batteries or charger were bad. Bought new Kodak rechargeables, followed charging directions exactly, same problem. Why does my camera go thru batteries so fast???

You need high-power re-chargeables - 2300 mAH or 2500 mAh

SOURCE: New Rechargable Batteries Die after A Couple of Pictures

This model is renowned for poor battery life. Some people say using the CRV3 battery lasts a lot longer but my advice is to buy NimH batteries with at least 2600mah. Some Nimh are only 700mah and obviously will last less than a third the time of a 2600. Keeping the use of the LCD to a minimum will increase battery life and using the flash puts a tremendous drain on the batteries so if you can do without the flash switch it off. Combine these tips with a set of 2600mah batteries and I'll guarantee you'll be pleasantly surprised. As a sideline I always have a good laugh when I see an Olympics opening at night or a firework display and all you can see is thousands of flashes going off which the majority only reach about 12 feet maximum and the parade being shot is some 300 feet away. SOURCE: EasyShare Z712IS

the camera will work with any brand of lithium but only the KLIC 8000 battery will work as a rechargeable

please look at your getting started guide and check page 1, there's an illustration of the 3 types of batts that will work:
lithium crv3, lithium aa and klic 8000
ni-mh is really not compatible

please check at the bottom of your camera, the three types of batts I mentioned are engraved at the battery door

thank you

SOURCE: Which batteries are the best? Can I use alkaline, lithium or any others with this camera?

Lithium is actually one of the most widely used as it contains a higher charge. As for alkaline batteries they dont hold a high charge and may cause problems with your digital camera.

I hope this has answered your question sufficiently. If you have more questions please post a reply. Thanks.

Does this camera operate on regular AA bateries. Put 2 brand new ones in and it will not power up. The manual says Kodak does not "support" Alkaline batteries....

Probably this old chat may help you to resolve your problem.

chrissy66 (12/10/2007)reply to this comment (by James DeRuvo - 12/12/2007)Sounds to me like your lens may have come out of alignment. Was it dropped recently? Since your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can do is have Kodak should fix it. If your camera is out of warranty, or if Kodak refuses to repair it for free, the one thing you can try is to try resetting the camera.

Kodak is also of the opinion that lens errors also occur when you use batteries not recommended by Kodak.

I recently chatted with a kodak specialist about this issue and he recommends changing your batteries to NiMh rechargeable batteries. These are the batteries that the camera is designed to use and using other types - like alkalines, can often cause the lens error to occur. If that doesn't work, then the camera indeed does need repair.

Rechargeable Ni-MH Batteries (AA Size): These Ni-MH AA batteries last up to twice as long as alkaline batteries when used in your Digital Camera - and you can recharge them up to 1000 times in our rapid charger.

Oxy-Alkaline Digital Camera Battery (AA Size).

CRV3 Lithium Batteries: A non-rechargeable battery designed specifically for today's feature-rich cameras. This battery is the obvious choice for speed performance, and long life. It delivers faster flash recycle times and lasts up to 10% longer than our previous design!

Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery Pack: Provides exceptional capacity with its 2.5 hour fast charge cycle time; can be recharged up to 1000 times in the EasyShare Camera Dock or EasyShare Rapid Charger,

Brand new AA batteries last only a few minutes, i.e. 5 new pictures. why?

Are you using normal AA batteries? i.e. non-rechargeable ones? If so, this is probably why... Digital cameras will **** these dry super fast. You will need to use some AA Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries (NiMH) with at least 2500mAh capacity to get some decent run time.

Kodak EasyShare Z612 Shuts down after taking a few pictures.

Question : What batteries can I use in my digital camera, and how long do they last?
Battery life depends on how you use your camera, the type of batteries you select, and how you handle the batteries.

Your camera is compatible with: KODAK Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery KLIC-8000 and KODAK CRV3 Lithium Batteries: A non-rechargeable battery. (so your battery might be in need of a change)

Using Your Camera

Some features, such as reviewing pictures and using the flash, require more power than others. Follow these guidelines to get the best use of your batteries:
  • Limit the time your camera is in Review mode.
  • Limit your use of the flash.
  • Use the LCD Dimmer or Auto Power Off features, if available on your camera.
  • Transfer your pictures to your computer using a compatible power adapter, camera dock, printer dock, or memory card reader.
  • Check that the latest firmware is installed on your camera. See Software, Driver & Firmware Downloads.
Handling Your Batteries
  • Wipe the battery contacts with a clean, dry cloth before loading it in your camera.
  • When using your camera in temperatures below 41° F (5° C), carry spare batteries and keep them warm.
  • Do not discard cold batteries that do not work; they may be usable when they return to room temperature.
  • Do not allow batteries to touch metal objects, including coins. Otherwise, the batteries may short-circuit, discharge energy, become hot, or leak.

Won't use rechargeable batteries

It could be due to the fact that some rechargeable batteries are slightly different shapes and the nobbly bit on the + end doesn't reach far enough in, as it is the case with Maplin AA batteries.
In my case I placed a small drop of solder with a soldering iron on the + nipple and now they reach into any device.

hi i just to have silimar problem with old panasonic, kodak and polaroid cameras.

try to use Duracel alkalines, not the cheap ones with out alkaline those are for remotes and clocks. flashlights.

if you are using rechargables make sure they are 2700mha AA NiMH or higher. lower won't work(there is another kind of rechargeables batteries those don't work on it).

for the lithium i never used them. they were kind of expensive compare to alkalines.

Low Battery

Many Kodak brand cameras have this problem, and when I say many I mean almost all. The only solution is to try different types/brands of batteries until you find one that lasts.

My digital camera will not turn on

My problem is now fixed! I put in a fresh set of recently purchased non-rechargeable batteries into the camera.

I was out-of-state visiting my Dad and taking many photos of his things. I ended up replacing my batteries with some he had around the house just prior to the first instance of camera's problem.
[I do not know the age of Dad's batteries!]

I went to Kodak's website [link] www.kodak.com/global/en/service/products/ekn027989.jhtml?pq-path=3906/1931

On this page is a heading "Troubleshoot And Repair," and I followed the link - Step-by-Step Solutions & Repair .
