Washer makes loud thumping after finished spin cycle

My top loading Whirlpool washing machine makes a loud thumping sound at the end of the first spin cycle as it is winding down just before refilling for the rinse cycle. It doesn't do it any other time or at the end of the final rinse/spin cycle. It's not the noise that an unbalanced load makes and it doesn't last long - just as the spin is finishing. My washer is balanced and doesn't "walk" even with an unbalanced load. Does anyone know what is making the thumping noise? Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem and replaced the drive block (easy to do) and it solved the problem. There are videos of how to do it on uTube.

Remove washer cabinet (easy to remove)and check that "base pads" (there are 3 pads, located under the main tub)are not worn. In case they are worn (even one of them), you should replce them all. Good luck !!

My whirlpool duet washer hammers very loud when it spins. The outside of the machine doesn't seem to vibrate much but it is very loud.

That is a common occurrence with dryers such as this one. Even though it sounds bad, it is harmless. If it really bothers, you can re-balance the load and it should reduce the vibration.

Whirlpool washing machine make loud noise after spin cycle quits. Noise continues until cycle winds down. Sounds like a machine gun being fired

Hello, have to tell you that most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping noise during the spin, the load of cloth may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the cloths, then restart the machine. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Thanks

Thumping sound at the end of spin cycle.

Rankine, sounds more like a worn drive block that sits under the basket. Usually the brake will not make a thumping sound. Attached is a couple of pictures. Check this out first...Catriver..post back.
