Question about Husqvarna Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Designer 1 - Non-responsive touchplate.

The touchplate on My Designer 1 is often non-responsive. This can be frustrating, especially when I'm in the middle of a project. I have taken the machine in for service several times when this has occurred. The agent tells me every time that there is nothing wrong with the machine. Can you please tell me why this happens, and how I can rectify it. Thanks.

I had the same dissatisfaction when I switched from the 1+ to the Designer 1. After some trials I am now happy. You need the springy free motion foot. Part #413 03 76-45. You take off the white shank and screw it on with the metal bar over the needle hook. In the set menu turn the SensorQ on, the free motion on, select stitch 1 from menu V and drop the feed dogs. It also makes a big difference to use the straight stitch throat plate which just has a small hole for the needle to go through. One other hint is that I often have to reduce my needle tension 3 or 4 steps. Hope it works for you.

SOURCE: The touch screen will not

Hi, this is a common problem to any touch screen. Touch screens has lesser life than the machine. You screen has gone bad, and you may have to replace it. There is no troubleshooting guide. And there is nothing wrong with your machine. Just that the touch screen has gotten old and not working.

New designer I light doesn't work

The Designer 1 has 2 lights - one close to the needle and another in the throat of the machine. If either light is blown out, neither will work. You should be able to replace the lights yourself but getting it out of the machine can be frustrating. Instructions are included in the owner's manual. If you cannot find the owner's manual you can go to the Viking website at http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us and click on the link 'Machine Updates' at the bottom of the page (right hand side). Then select All Machines, and then select Designer 1. You will be taken to a page that will allow you to download the Owner's Manual.

I have d1 that uses floppies. I love it have had it since 2005. I do not have a problem. I am looking for any one selling used pieces especially 150x150 hoop. I have recently purchased a used endless hoop....

Pauline, I'd suggest you jump over to Yahoo and join up the group called Designer1
here is a link http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Designer1/

I have joined several different groups for my sewing machines and find that there are lots of lovely helpful fellow sewing enthusiasts there who share their knowledge and love of sewing.

I think you'll probably get a better response to your search there.

Hi Can u please tell me how to calibrate my Designer 1? Have not done it for a few years and now I've forgotten. Also my touch screen is only partially responding....I'm not getting any response...

Hi Vina, Since you can't get any response to your Menu-Norm-Prog-Rep-Set-or Help on your touch screen but you can get into your stitches, It does sound like you need to re-calibrate your touch screen. Normally you would get into your Set Menu to access your touch screen calibration. But as suggested on another solution. You turn off your Des 1, Holding in the reverse button (bottom left of the eight buttons) and the pivot button (the second one from the bottom of the four buttons) at the same time and turn on your machine. This is the Service menu that pops up (try not to touch anything on this screen, it could really mess things up if you don't know what you are doing) After this screen pops up go over to the eight buttons on the far left of your machine and touch the needle up, needle down button (top right button of the eight) the Calibration Screen will pop up on your touch screen (two plus marks labeled 1 & 2) In your sewing sitting position touch the center of the #1 mark and then the #2 mark. Once you've done that the Service Screen will pop back up. Shut off your Des 1 and restart it normally. Try getting into your different menus- Menu-Norm-Prog Etc. Hopefully that fixed your Calibration issue! ** Note: If the service menu doesn't pop up when trying to hold in these 2 buttons together and turning on your Des 1 the buttons weren't held in properly and you need to turn it off and try it again. Hopefully that helped you out!! Happy Sewing!! Kathy
