Amana Easy Reach AFD2535DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator Logo

I cannot get to the drip pan under refridgerator to empty it. It is filled with sludge and smells bad

Our refridgerator is a freezer bottom type. Something nasty must have spilled inside and dripped down to the drip pan. When the fan runs a very smelly odor is blowing out. We cleaned the whole inside of the fridge but cannot reach the drip pan. IN the front the coils block it, in the back the fan blocks it. How can we clean and empty the drip pan? It is an Amana Easy Reach. Not so easy to reach the drip pan. We can see it filled with a disgusting liquid when we shine the flashlight on it.

We had the same problem with our Amana French Door Refridgerator. Ours is less than 2 years old. They still selling our model. In order to access the pan you have to remove all of the lower panels on the back of the fridge. Be sure you unplug it first. You cannot remove the tray even if you remove the fan. I soaked up all nasty water I could reach with a sponge. Then I filled the tray almost fill with 30% bleach/water solution. Let that sit for 10 minutes and then sponge it out. Add more bleach/water solution and scrub any area you can reach with an old tooth brush, then sponge out.

You can't get it all out without disassembling the entire fridge, but the bleach water solution should kill the remaining mold. Plan on doing this at least once a year.

I have a GE Profile Arctica. The above solution does not match my model. No drip pan under compresser. No smell under fridge. Only when you open fridge door. What other solution can I try?

Thank willie for helping with one: "Well, it looks like the pan is a seperate plastic pan and not the compressor mounting pan like some of the newer ones are. It appears that you have to remove the condensor fan motor and mounting bracket then maybe the pan will left up and over the compressor, or maybe there is enough room to lift the pan up and out the front over the condensor coils"

Samsung refridgerator freezes due to clogged drain line.

I would look for bad door gaskets. Sounds crazy but if you have bad gaskets, you will let in more moist air and the freezer will freeze up faster. If the fridge is freezing up I would look at the slide from the freezer to the fridge and see if it is stuck open. During the defrost cycle the unit should drain and fill the drain pan, but the normal operation of the compresser should be able to evaporate the water with ease. Look at the door gaskets and the vent. Good luck

How do i remove a drip pan from a kenmore refrigerator

The drip pan collects water when the freezer goes into a defrost cycle. Most times there is very little water and the water evaporates quickly. When there is a problem with the freezer or the water does not evaporate between defrost cycles, the drip pan fills with water. If the front bottom of your refrigerator has a grille, you access the drip pan from the front. If there is no grille, access the drip pan from the rear.

Instructions
Rear Access

1 Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet. Pull the refrigerator away from the wall so that you can access the rear of the refrigerator.

2 Look under the refrigerator with a flashlight and locate the drip pan. Often when people install refrigerators they neglect to pull the packing from around the drip pan. The drip pan may have tape or styrofoam around it.

3 Remove any packing material away from the drip pan and pull the drip pan out from under the refrigerator.

Front Access

4 Pull the grille at the bottom of the refrigerator below the refrigerator door with your fingers. The grille secures to the refrigerator with plastic clips.

5 Remove any debris from the access area and throw the debris in the trash. The coils and fan under the refrigerator attract dust and dirt. Clean out the area with a lint brush if you have one.

6 Pull the drip pan out from under the refrigerator.

I know blood dripping from meat will smell. It could have dripped down through the defrost drain tube to the pan underneath. You can access the pan from the rear by removing the cardboard cover. If the smell seems to be coming from the pan, it's difficult to remove so I would just pour some bleach in it to kill any smell and you may can wipe it out from there. The drain tube may also have the smell in it so you can pour some bleach into it from the inside of the freezer at the bottom of the rear panel. You can move the fridge to see if anything is pooled on the floor that might smell.

Do I need to empty the water from my drip pan

the pan is there to catch condensation from the compressor during the refridgeration cycle. the water build up to me indicates one of two things. Either the refrigerant level is low and it is freezing up then thawing, or if you have ice or water dispencer it could have a leak in the line. the only thing other than that is a leak in the magnetic door seal or other insulation causing condensation. hope this helps

Drip pan needs emptying; had repairman out for other issues, now fridge keeps overflowing

The accumulated ice you saw is of course the source of the water. The refrigerator will eventually rid itself of the excess ice and the problem will therefore disappear on it's own after a while. The drip pan is normally filled with only a small amount of water, and that is dried up by the condenser cooling fan under the fridge. The pan is removable from most units, but not without making a mess. I suppose you can make and clean up the mess one time and be done with it.

Water drains from freezer compartment into refridgerator

If the freezer is on top then empty out the freezer and remove the bottom and back liner of the freezer compartment usually phillips screws. In the back you will see the freezer coils along with a defrost element. Below these two items u will see a drip tray that collects water from the coils on defrost cycle, in the center of the pan will be a drain hole that connects to a hose that leads to a pan under the refrigerator.Normally the water is collected there and evaporated. The hole in the tray in the freezer is clogged. Thaw it and clean it until you can pour water in it and it goes to the pan down below. please rate me
