Washer will not stop spinnig

During the last spin cycle, we noticed the drum would not stop spinning. We opened the lid and the drum stoped. We then set the cycle knob to a position where the washer should not run even with the lid closed(off position). When we did this we closed the lid. The washer made a buzzing sound, like it was still trying to run. So, with the lid open-things are fine. With the lid closed, the washer acts like it is trying to run, even when the cycle knob is in the off position. Help...

You probably have a blocked pump. Pull it out and clear the obstructions- buttons, lint, etc

The plastic drum just keeps spinning freely during the wash cycle

Yes! to let you know that this is NORMAL when the washer agitates, due to the "Westinghouse" designed transmission, which in turn is called the "Franklin" design. When the agitator returns back stroke the washtub "indexes" before the agitator strokes forward. Thus moving the load around through the water while being moved back and forth.
Plus! to let you know that since the washer does NOT have "brakes" to stop the washbasket and hold the basket this design allowes the "indexing". This is one of the main reasons your washer has a safety lid interlocking device on it to lock the lid when it spins, because the washer has no brakes to stop the machine if the lid is opened during a spin cycle.

Washer won't spin. Belt is slipping. Tub is stuck.

The belt sounds worn out since its slipping. Change it out. Its cheap fix.

The drum brake does just what is sounds like. brakes the drum. For instance when u open the lid during a cycle and everything stops thats the drum engaging and stops the movement of teh drum. If the brake is malfunctioning two things will happen, you open the lid (assuming the safety switch is still good) or the drum will not spin at all.

Opened it during spin cycle, machine kept running

if you open the lid, you will see a small pin on the lid proper, look where the lid seals when closed, you will see a small hole that that pin slides into. check to see if there is a blockage. if not. probably need to replace the switch that controls this.

My BWD 129 washer dryer is not spinning or draining

I have a similar problem - washer wouldn't spin or drain. The problem with my Kenmore 90 series is that the lid switch needs to be replaced. It's a safety feature. During normal operation when the washer is spinning or draining - and you open the lid - the lid switch sensor knows that the lid is opened and then "stops" the machine. A new lid switch needs to be installed. I have picked up the part, but am still trying to figure out "how" to get inside of the washer. The only difference between what you describe, and my problem, is that there is no "unusual" noise coming from the machine. Hope this helps lead you in a good direction. Another good site is Bob Villa's site.

Noise when stopping after spin cycle or open lid (after moving)

check hub nut, it is likely loose, its under the agitator. top pops off agitator and bolt hold agitator down.
