SOURCE: How do I get my Singer sewing machine to sew right

Start right from the beginning, make sure the presser foot is up when you thread the machine, make sure the presser foot is up, top tension should be about 4 or 5, make sure you use a good mercerised thread, make sure the bobbin tension is not too tight, you should only be able to pull the thread through with slight resistence, if it is too tight slacken the large screw on the bobbin case about a quarter of a tutn at a time and test.

SOURCE: I have a Singer Sewing Machine 5817C, the thread

Make sure that there is tension on the thread when you have passed it through the tension unit, by making sure the presser foot is down, and then gently pulling the thread to feel tension. If there is no tension, as seems to be the case, check the tension discs inside the unit to make sure that there is no debris stopping them from closing.

SOURCE: thread tangled in the bobine

I had this same problem yesterday. I took apart the needle tension casing and now it doesn't get tangled or stop. The only thing is the bobbin is not sewing...it looks fine on the top, but the bottom is just loose loops.

SOURCE: singer 301a sewing machine does not sew for more

As for the bobbin thread not picking up it could be your hook timing is off. Do you know how to adjust this?

Thread balls up on bottom of fabric. My machine will be sewing good for about 2 feet and then it does this. After I rethread my machine it will sew good for another 2 feet and repeat. Any ideas what is...

Set top tension at four. If the ball of thread remains on bottom then loosen the bobbin tension. Do this a little at a time until the stitch is good.

My Toyota 444 sewing machine. When sewing, stitches ok on right side of material but underneath, stitches are entangled. sometimes it stops sewing and I have to pull thread out.

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread. (You will need to remove the top thread from the machine and rethread from the beginning.)

For tension, start out with it set about the mid-point on the tension dial. Then tweak it from there. If top thread is showing on the bottom of the fabric, tighten the top tension. If bobbin thread is showing on the top of the fabric, loosen the top tension. It's ideal when both threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Thread bunching up on bottom of fabric

Remove the top thread from your machine (NOTE: ALWAYS clip the thread next to the spool, lift the presser foot, and gently pull the top thread down from top to bottom!!! This helps reduce the chances of breaking something by pulling the thread upwards!)

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread the top thread from beginning. Verify the thread path is correct and start out with the thread tension set at the midway point (and then tweak the top thread tension through testing).

FWIW, if the thread problem appears under the fabric, it is generally a top thread issue. If the thread problem appears on the top of the fabric, it is generally a bobbin thread issue.

Consew machine. My bottom thread has ball knots on the bottom. I have changed the needle and the top stitch is perfect. Please advise.

Re-check the thread that is knotted. It's most likely the top thread causing what is called thread nesting or what I term "thread barfs."

Thread problems appearing on the top of the fabric are generally caused by the bobbin thread. Problems appearing under the fabric are usually a result of upper thread issues.

Remove the top thread.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Verify the thread path is correct.
Set the upper tension to the midway point.

The tension on my machine is off.I don't know which thread to adjust.bobbin or top thread. on fabric top stitch seems ok,bottom stitch bunches up and is loose. How do I readjust the tensions?

If the thread problem appears under the fabric, it is a top thread issue.

If the thread problem appears on the top of the fabric, the bobbin thread is the issue.

Perhaps the upper thread is not seated completely in the tension disk. Remove the upper thread from the machine, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot, then rethread from the beginning. Make sure the thread path is correct. Test your stitch.

If the thread is still looping under the fabric, the upper tension is too loose. Set the upper tension to the midway point. Test and adjust the tension until it is where you want it. Preferred tension is when both threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Need to now where to put tentions to sew sweat pants.

use a couple of pieces of waste material the same as the sweat pants material and sew about an inch long
adjust the needle tension and do it again
repeat the exercise until the top and bottom thread joint at the middle of the two pieces of the material
tension settings on the machine are a loose guide as the thread thickness, material thickness and needle size all have a bearing in the tensions of the thread
so practice and adjust prior to sewing is the way to go

I have a singer 7258 that I can not get the tension to loosen up on. The top stitch is straight across and adjusting dial doesn't help.

Hello

Adjust the tension

Load your sewing machine with one color on top, threaded through the needle. Load the second color thread into the bobbin and thread.

Fold the scrap fabric in half, and sew a straight stitch at least 2 inches long. Look closely at the seam. If you see loops of the bottom color thread on top of the fabric, proceed to Step 3. If you see loops of the top color thread on the bottom of the fabric, proceed to step 4.

Loosen the top tension. Since the top tension is so tight, it is pulling the bottom thread up through the fabric. Loosen the top tension by turning the numbered knob on the front of the sewing machine counterclockwise by one number.

Tighten the top tension. Since the top tension is too loose, the bottom thread is pulling the top thread down through the fabric. Tighten the top tension by turning the numbered knob on the front of the sewing machine clockwise by one number.

Sew a straight stitch 3 inches in length. Check the stitching. It is perfect if the threads meet in the middle, and you can only see the top thread on top and the bottom thread on bottom. If it still needs adjusting, go back to step 2 to repeat the needed steps.

Using two different colored threads makes it easier for you to see which thread is being pulled.

Always use proper precautions when working with electrical machines.

Singer 301a...sews on top of fabric nicely...bottom is just loose loops of thread...it's like the bobbin is not sewing...I put 2 different colors in to see...top is perfect...on bottom of fabric I see the...

This is a tension adjustment problem. It's good to use two different colors of thread, like you did. From your description, the top thread (needle thread) tension needs to be tighter. As you tighten the tension of the top thread, you'll see that the top thread pulls the bobbin thread up into the fabric so it's no longer laying loose on the bottom of the fabric.

You'll need to have the pressure foot down when you tighten the tension. Tighten it a little, sew a practice seam, check to see what the stitch looks like. Tighten it a little more, sew, check, etc etc--until both top and bottom look the same--you shouldn't see much (if any) of the bobbin thread color on top of the fabric or the top thread color on the underside.

Let me know how this works for you, ok?

The top thread is so tight I can't pull it thru and the thread balls up on the bottom. I have tried adjusting it and can't get any thing solved.

If the thread balls up on the bottom of the fabric, USUALLY the upper tension is insufficient.

ALSO check for the correct threading both above and below and verify the needle is oriented correctely with the long groove toward you.
