This is a combo Washer/Dryer Unit and in Drying mode, it starts by spinning, which is typical. The time will shows around 3 hours with Normal setting. However, I can see cold water line being tripped periodically and cold water entering into the tub! I reset this 3 times and got similar issues, although once it added so much water the cycle finished on its own prematurely with the clothes totally soaked and saturated. To work around this I completely turned off the cold water valve. There are no codes. It seems there may be a software glitch somewhere? I've had the unit for only a month and this just started happening.
Replace the 5 way valve. get the old flow restrictor out of the drying cold water line before reconnecting. It came out of the valve to cause the problem.
I had the same problem on my LG WM3987HW combo w/d . I replaced the computer, the pressure sensor, and was about to replace a pump before discovering your simple solution. This absolutely fixed my problem after weeks of troubleshooting. I was able to narrow it down to a y-connector on one of the hoses. Unfortunately, I can't find a part number so I will have to improvise something. In the meantime, turning the water pressure ALMOST off at the spigot has me up and running for now. Important to note though, people should never turn cold water completely off since these units use some water to cool the condenser.
nevermind previous solution regarding wm3987hw. It seems mine probably also uses a flow restricter INSIDE the (4)way valve.
gotta order the whole assembly. :/
confirmed. ignore the image above.
The only flow restrictor is INSIDE the solenoid / valve assebly. Part #5220FR2008E on wm3987HW, you can order it from amazon or ebay. Mine appeared to be perfectly intact except there is a black rubber washer behind the injection molded plastic part of the restrictor. Everything looks alright but it's the washer that deteriorates. Only solution is to replace the whole valve assembly.
can the assembly be taken apart (the many screws of the housing), then access the broken O Ring and replace that instead of the whole part?

The water valve is going bad, I just turn the cold water on very little and it works fine. Been waiting for over a month for the service tech to replace but get calls about what it is and what they are going to do.

We just got a new one and it looks like we have the same problem.
I don't know how to fix this, but the cold water is what is necessary to condense the evaporated moisture from the clothes. It shouldn't be getting into the drum though. I would guess that the severe vibration due to high spin speeds caused a fitting to loosen, allowing water into the wrong area. Please post the outcome.

this issue happens with all LG condensing dryer functions, including the WM3677HW - same issue. the cold water for condensing line is necessary but should not be leaking in. no one from LG could understand this issue. Major issue that should have been corrected over the years.
REPLACE THE 5 WAY COLD WATER VALVE Part #5221EA1009B
