Pentax Cam 100 pump blowing capacitors. Fitted new motor as the old pump did the same

Pump runs 10/15 seconds then melts the capacitor! Old motor had a burned out winding and did the same thing. This is a brand new motor from Pentax. I photographed the old wiring as it was going to be a while before the new motor arrived so I am pretty sure it all went back the same. Any ideas? Chris

Are you sure the rotor on the motor is rotating freely and getting up to full speed? Did you try running the motor without attaching the housing that actually pumps the water?

When hooking up capacitor on a pump it doesnt really matter which way the wires go. The capacitor is set up in such a way the it supplys power wherever the wires are hooked up. I hope this helps

SOURCE: wiring a 220v single phase motor and capacitor

Black and white are usually power. an ohmmeter will confirm. Brown are for capacitors. There is almost always a diagram on the motor someplace. Eric

SOURCE: Motor Hums,No Run

Inside the back case on the motor you'll see a white piece with two copper colored arms that have two silver points that almost touch. If these are rusty I've found that the motor won't turn over
. A quick fix is to take some 600+ grit Aluiminum oxide sandpaper and give each of those contact points a brisk sanding to remove any oxidation. This will help the points make a positive contact . Make sure while very obvious that the motor is unplugged first.

SOURCE: PUMP TRIPS BREAKER, BUT SHAFT ROTATES FREELY

Probably not. Take the capacitor off and inspect it for physical damage and if it looks ok take it to an electric motor shop for testing. Assuming it is ok your motor will probably need work or replacement.

Kenmore Elite wash model 100 22942 only hums, will not run after it is filled. The washer is about 17 years old

If the motor is humming it could be that it is stuck and cannot turn. Look for obstruction in drive or pump. If you leave motor on it will burn out. See if you can disconnect the motor from what ever it drives to see if it will spin freely. If it does then my diagnosis is correct.

Can anyone please help me fix my Goulds electric pump 2hp, I've changed it's capacitor 12 times in 3 years, and again I just arrived from the store to buy a new capacitor. What's the possible problem?

How old is pump?

Once the internals of the motor get old and windings, armature, stator, etc get weak, capacitors are gonna become disposable parts.

Time to maybe get a new motor for your pump.

Motor not working.

You need to find out what is causing the capacitor to short and "blow up or smoke". Then you will have to replace the capacitor again or the motor will never start up. Sounds like you either have a dead short or you bought a faulty Capacitor. Not uncommon for a 220+ volt Capacitor to be bad right from the factory. I replaced two Capacitors before I had a quality one, but after I replaced it twice I have had no more problems. Make sure to grease the motor through the grease fitting on it. The life of your motor depends on it.

Welcome to the world of Ruud! Ok James heres the deal. It sounds like the condenser fan motor has failed. Its not a repairable item but the motor is not too expensive. Disconnect the main power at the fuse block on the side of your house next to your a/c. Remove the screws that hold the top fan section and carefully turn the fan/panel assembly over taking care not to stress the wires. Determine how the fan is mounted (probably 4 screws) and go find your new motor. Both Rheem and Ruud use the same motor mounting. Most a/c supply houses have a motor that will fit or go to graingers. Make sure you get a matching run capacitor for that motor. It will have separate wires and not share any wiring with the old capacitor. The old capacitor will have to stay in place since it is also connected to the compressor. The old motor will have 3 wires and the new one 4 (2 brown for the capacitor and 2 others to put on the contactor that the compressor wires go to). If its a heat pump it could be a board and youll need help. good luck

My Carrier rooftop ac blower motor quits blowing. It'll run fine for a while, maybe up to 8 hours or so and then just quit. If I go up to the roof and spin the fan motor and then come back down an

There is probably only 1 wire leading to the F or FAN terminal on the capacitor. You remove the 1 wire to the fan side of the capacitor and connect it to the new fan capacitor. Then you take an extra wire that you will need to make, buy, or find, and connect it from the opposite terminal on your new capacitor. Meaning the other side that of the capacitor. Then connect that new wire from the new capacitor back to the old capacitors C or COM terminal. Clear as mud I know, but basically you run your fan capacitor wire to the new capacitor, then the other side of the capacitor runs back to common on the old capacitor. And beware! Those things can hold a charge!!! Disconnect all power & discharge the capacitor! Hope this helps

I HAVE A MAGNUM FORCE PUMP. iT WAS RUNNING THIS

It could be the capacitor again, but most likely if it stopped while running, its not that, unless you had a brief power failure. The motor may have a built in thermal overload which turned the pump off. If it only humms then it could either be locked up by something in the impller, or could be the bearings in the motor have failed. If the motor doesn't smell "burnt" then you might stand a change to disassemble the pump. Disassemble the motor and replace bearings. Replace the mechanical seal while you have it apart. OR you could buy a new motor, as it is 10 years old.
