Insignia LCDTV dvr combo - no sound on non HD stations

Just got a new insignia 26inch combo unit, and have tried connecting to Comcast HD box through HDMI cable. i get good picture on all channels, but only have sound on HD stations. Comcast has switched boxes and I've tried two TV's (returned first one).

    Hey Trager,

I have the exact same issue. I had a brand new Comcast HD box that did not produce sound with the HDMI cable on the Analog channels. I switched it with my cable box that I have in the other room that I knew worked with HDMI (connected to my Panasonic plasma). Same issue...so its the TV not the cable box. I will be contacting Best Buy this week, but since you did not get a resolution I will get my cash back. I could use component cables but that defeats the purpose.

The link below echoes that it is a tv issue, not an issue with the box.

You will need to used a red and white cable that will connect to the (audio out) on the comcast box and then to your (in audio) on your tv.

Insignia 26 inch TV/DVD Combo produces strange odor when on.

You should never have an acrid or burning smell coming from electronics. I'd return the unit, if that is still an option, as it is about to fail.

I have a DVD1001 DVD VCR combo how do I hook DVD combo to my tv

Use output of combo player to input of TV. Use what ever available input you have left on you TV. HDMI or Component input is best, but others will work.

No Non-Hd sound

In a nutshell, there is no solution to this problem. The new Insignia TVs have a compatibilty issue with certain HDMI connections. The best thing is to return the TV and purchase another brand. I bought the LG w/built-in DVD and everything works great.

Need to hook up dvd/vcr combo with converter box

Connect your rabbit ears to the Insignia. Connect the Insignia to the antenna input on the "cvd/vcr combo". Now turn on the television to show the "cvd/vcr combo".

The Insignia simply goes between your antenna and your television. In your case you also have a vcr so if you want the VCR to be able to play and record digital stations you will need the Insignia between the vcr and the antenna.

No sound on NON HD channels

I had the exact same problem on a brand new Insignia 26 " LCD with DVD. Comcast tech was able to fix it by changing the Comcast box diagnostics. Here is what he did. Using the Comcast remote with the TV on - press power, cable, menu in that order. A comcast diagnostic srceen will appear. Select Additional HDMI options, then audio options. Change the audio options to L-PCM. Press power again to exit the diagnostics. That will fix it and you get to use the HDMI cable.

Sony kdl-40s2000

Probably need a software upgrade. Contact Sony for that information. This would be a common fix in most sistuations when using HDMI.
