Insignia LCDTV dvr combo - no sound on non HD stations
Just got a new insignia 26inch combo unit, and have tried connecting to Comcast HD box through HDMI cable. i get good picture on all channels, but only have sound on HD stations. Comcast has switched boxes and I've tried two TV's (returned first one).
I have the exact same issue. I had a brand new Comcast HD box that did not produce sound with the HDMI cable on the Analog channels. I switched it with my cable box that I have in the other room that I knew worked with HDMI (connected to my Panasonic plasma). Same issue...so its the TV not the cable box. I will be contacting Best Buy this week, but since you did not get a resolution I will get my cash back. I could use component cables but that defeats the purpose.Hey Trager,

Use output of combo player to input of TV. Use what ever available input you have left on you TV. HDMI or Component input is best, but others will work.
In a nutshell, there is no solution to this problem. The new Insignia TVs have a compatibilty issue with certain HDMI connections. The best thing is to return the TV and purchase another brand. I bought the LG w/built-in DVD and everything works great.
Connect your rabbit ears to the Insignia. Connect the Insignia to the antenna input on the "cvd/vcr combo". Now turn on the television to show the "cvd/vcr combo".
The Insignia simply goes between your antenna and your television. In your case you also have a vcr so if you want the VCR to be able to play and record digital stations you will need the Insignia between the vcr and the antenna.
Make sure when you do the process two things: one, a blank tape or If it is a dvd recorder, a blank disk is inserted, in the tape make sure the tab that prevents recording is not broken. Two, before exit the timer recording menu, make sure that there is not a instruction that says "done" or "confirm" or any word meaning that all the steps went through.
I had the exact same problem on a brand new Insignia 26 " LCD with DVD. Comcast tech was able to fix it by changing the Comcast box diagnostics. Here is what he did. Using the Comcast remote with the TV on - press power, cable, menu in that order. A comcast diagnostic srceen will appear. Select Additional HDMI options, then audio options. Change the audio options to L-PCM. Press power again to exit the diagnostics. That will fix it and you get to use the HDMI cable.
