SOURCE: LG 37LC7D remote doesn't work

Turns out there is a problem with certain LG models made in Mexico during May. Not only did the remote stop working, but the TV started shutting itself on and off randomly. Took it back and exchanged it for a Panasonic. Not putting up with that, LG.

SOURCE: Buzzing and lines with Foxtel

I had this exact same problem, which was continuous pink bands or lines that rolled upwards, as well as a continuous hum or buzz. This problem was isolated to Foxtel; it didn't happen with the DVD. Differently, this problem happened immediately I changed from my really old TV to a new LCD TV. I experimented with the leads (Scart or otherwise) too without change. So I got Foxtel to come and have a look and the guy brought with him what he called an "isolator" which was a small box-shaped thing (about 3inches by 2 inches) that he added to the cable's its exterior connection point. Immediate and complete solution - no more lines or buzz!

SOURCE: plasma burn,

Hey gallagher1,

While what you're seeing may be image burn, it generally only occurs when the same images are displayed on a screen for a prolonged period of time. Static images like letterbox formatting, banner scrolls (from TV stations like CNN), test patterns and the backgrounds from some video games have all been known to cause image burn, but most retail stores should know to take precautions against this kind of damage in their display/open-box models.

To make sure what you're seeing isn't simply the residue from an adhesive sticker or placard, I'd first suggest cleaning the screen with a damp, lint-free (microfiber) cloth. Make sure to wring any excess water out of the cloth before wiping the screen, and never spray water directly onto the screen's surface. You may also want to try using a commercial TV screen cleaning kit, but remember to never use household cleaners like Windex or Goo Gone on the screen as they may cause damage to LCD and plasma displays.

If cleaning doesn't help, this specific model appears to be equipped with a feature called Image Sticking Minimalization (ISM). According to information provided by the manufacturer, you should be able to access this feature by pressing the "Menu" button on your remote control and selecting the "Option" menu. Under "ISM Method" there should be four different options: Normal, White Wash, Orbiter, and Inversion. Each of these methods slightly alters how images are displayed to prevent - and possibly remove - any kind of image burn.

If you're not quite sure how to use these features, you may wish to refer to your owner's manual documentation. You should also be able to find step-by-step instructions on how to use ISM by visiting the following webpage:

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

SOURCE: Plasma TV smell?

I imagine it is the new silicone grease coatings on the electrical components. These tvs tend to run hot and it should burn off after a few days.

My daughter bought this tv for me a few days ago and there's a smell coming from the back of the tv is that normal?

Some plasticizer out-gassing is normal in new electronics. I personally would want to make sure there is plenty of ventilation in the room for the first couple of days, especially while the set is running. A burned plastic odor or visible smoke is cause for concern; if this happens unplug the set immediately and make a warranty claim.

MAGNAVOX TV BURNING SMELL TV WENT POP AND WENT OFF

Well that pop had something to do with the power components inside the TV frying. I would have to say there is nothing you can do to repair it as its dangerous to work on such things.
I wouln't waste my time bringing it to a repair shop they will probably tell you to just buy a new one.

Plasma TV smell?

i had the same prob and thought it would burn off. It didn't after a month. Read the comments and tried the plug direct into wall socket plus i washed off the tv surface several times. Now no smell. Not sure which action cured the problem but i'm now happy. It was so bad i had to leave a window open and at times i would gag from the smell.
