Why can I not program a universal remote(1056B01-L) to work with BDP-S470 Sony Blu-ray Disc/DVD Player?

You need the sheet that came with the remote. If the manufacturer's codes do not work with your ??, then you need a more modern remote. The codes must ALREADY be in the remote to be used. The code is part of the REMOTE.
