T.V. shuts off when I try to play a DVD in the built-in player

My Magnavox T.V. has a built-in DVD player and a built-in VHS player. Neither player will work. When I try to play a DVD, the screen flashes and the entire tv shuts off. I've unpluged the satellite cable to see if thats the problem and it still won't work. I've tried putting the tv on different channels (3, 4) and that doesn't work either. Help!!!

The VCR player on the tv works fine. However, anytime I try to do anything with the DVD player, the entire tv powers off.

I earlier said both did not work, because my fiance told me that. I later found out the VCR player works fine. I tried what you suggested, but when I loaded the VCR and hit stop, it stopped like it should. Its only when I try to do anything with the DVD player that the t.v. flashes and shuts off. Its not instant though....when I hit the play button, the t.v. appears to change to DVD mode. Then after about five seconds, the t.v. shuts off.

Try putting in a VCR tape let it load and hit stop. If the set stays on it's the VCR deck causing the problem. It will be either be bad sensors or LED or possibly the mode switch. Let me know if this helps.

First you say "Neither player will work."
Then you say "The VCR player on the tv works fine'

    Which is it ?

Did you do what I suggested ?

The timing on the VCR will shut down the TV .

Nothing in the DVD will shut down the TV.

I'm just trying to help you.

Power off when inserting vhs tape

I had this problem when copying an old family vhs tape. I had to unscrew the top of the magnavox to access the vhs tape. Then, I gently removed the tape and replaced the cover. After winding the tape back, I put it in the player and immediately pushed fast forward for about 3 seconds before hitting play followed by d.dubbing. I was able to make a copy of the tape and did not damage my original.

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

DVD does not play on other players or computer

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description indicates that the last step in the DVD recording has not been performed on these discs that were recorded on the Magnavox. This would be "finalize" or instruct the Magnavox that no other files would be written/recorded on the current disc. Thereafter, the Magnavox would complete the DVD disc making it playable in any other player. Normally, finalization would take a bit of time to complete.

Pls post back how things turned up. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Magnavox mwd 2206 dvd vcr player....shuts off with eject word across screen.

On a unit I checked with this same symptom, removing the top cover allows the unit to stay on and operate normally. There is some sort of sensor at the left middle of the chassis, which, when unblocked by any opaque object, allows the unit to remain on. A temporary fix (not advisable) would be to replace the top cover with a piece of clear plastic or taut saran wrap (no vent holes needed). It's unclear exactly where/what that sensor is from a cursory test. This is a work in progress on someone else's machine that I lack full access to.
