Tv popped, and picture left...then came back in blocks and the color is very distorted and the picture can hardly be seen. When you turn the tv on it takes a while for the poor picture to come in, and it comes in in sections, there are lines across the picture
Is the onscreen menu just as distorted and are the lines across it or behind it? The pop you heard may have been a capacitor and since the TV is still powering on, it's the probably the video controller board that is on it's way out. If the onscreen menu looks fine, you maybe having a problem with the input board only so try a DVD that uses a different input and if it's poor, I would say the TV needs to have the input/output board service. If the OSD is distorted as well then it's definitely the video controller board and service is likely required.

It must be connected with the color circuit of your tv, a board connected to back end of the tube. Could be dust, cob web or carbon deposit shorting a transistor. Popping noise if loud enough can be attributed to high voltage circuit fault and picture tube.
