I moved from an xp operating system on an old computer to Windows 7 on a new computer. The new machine, a HP Pavilionjh intel core 7 cannot recognize the video camera and after talking with HP it is determined I need to install the proper driver. I've left a message with HP customer support a couple of days ago but haven't heard anything .Anyone know where I can get this driver?

I think you're best option is to look for software that is compatible with your MiniDV camcorder. It seems Cyberlink was the original install software, so I would try finding or buying Cyberlink to see if it will work for your camcorder on a Win7 machine. If the link doesn't work, you might have to cut and paste twice.

The computer recognizes the dvc to the extent when I set it to photos the computer will recognize the dv card it has installed and pull the pictures off. When I switch the camera to video mode, the computer loses knowledge the camera is connected. I deon't know it there is such a thing as a "dv cable" that differs from the usb cable I'm using to connect the camera or not. I clan't use a firewire connection because this model HP Pavilion doesn't support that capability. My bad for not checkingthat out before buying. My camera supprts both usb 2 and firewire. The computer supports usb 2 and 3.
You can buy a FIREWIRE or ieee 1394 PCI card and install it into your PC (if its a tower) or buy a ieee 1394 to USB cable and try using that. There are many options out there.
Unlike HP's initial response that all I need is a compatible driver, that is not the answer which I confirmed during a subsequent call to a different HP tech person. The problem is the motherboard in this computer can't accept an ieee 1394a fire wire card. It has nothing to do with software. It has to do with the hardware; i.e., the motherboard. I have to find a way to come out of the camera with firewire and connect that to something that will allow USB 3 input to the computer. SYBAUSA says they have a device, SY-HUB50041, that will do just that IF the motherboard has a Firewire 10-pin Header and an ATX Power Supply Molex Power Connector. I am now going to get in touch with HP Tech support to confirm or not these are present.
