Hi, 1st of all check your disks are ok and free from any scratches if they have scratches get a new game and give it a try.
if it still dont work then go to a computer hard ware store and buy a can of compressed air and also a cd lense cleaning kit.
then do the following 1 using the straw with the can of air spray into the dvd drive to remove any build up of dust from inside the dvd drive 2, then use the lense cleaning cd then give it a try
if after doing the above it wtill dont work then this will mean the dvd drive is fried and needs replacing, check if you have any warranty left as this fault will be covered by this and they will exchange you wii for a working one
if you have no warranty then you need to find someone who can replace and reprogram the new drive as its not just a case of changing the drive with a working one you also need to get the firmware off your drive and transfer it onto the new drive
let me know if you need further assistance ok plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks
Not a problem. If you are replacing a drive, be sure it has the same interface, IDE, EIDE, etc
Google the specs on your current drive (take it out and get the manufacturer and model). In addition to EBay, it may be worth looking at www.nextag.com great proce comparison site and great vendors. I start all and finish most of my hardware shopping there.
Brands are important. Pioneer, Sony.. make sure it is reputable. a few extra $$$ goes a long way.
Hope this helps. Please rate and comment if it does.
you should try this start-my computer-right click-manage-device manager -dvd/cd drives-here right click uninstal or update driver.
this should work is your drive in not damage.
DVD drive is bad , sounds like the laser .if you have some mechanical skill you can replace the laser in the DVD ROM drive. . if you have access to a multimeter then you can adjust the "pot" on the laser and it will improve but will shorten the lifespan of the laser. If it can last till your new laser arrives in the mail then your great.
The only real way to fix it is to replace the drive or the laser unit , replacing xbox360 drives can be a complex operation if your not experianced . (can brick your drive or turn your 360 in to a fancy dvd player) if you open the case and identify your drive. Most sites that sell replacement parts for these consoles have easy to follow instructions for the product that you buy from them.
Well, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. It was still worth a try. I have to agree with you. Since it isn't being recognized properly it probably isn't worth the trouble getting it repaired since typically that costs more than buying a new one. If you need to find some good prices on CD/DVD readers & burners you can look online here:
Simply navigate to Computer Hardware > CD / DVD Burners & Media. After the page loads simply click, "CD / DVD Burners" located in the menu on the left.
Let me know if I can do anything else for you (posted as a solution so you could rate the responses above).
The most likely cause is a faulty DVD drive. Replacing the DVD drive is fairly simple.
You can buy a new one online for around $25 including shipping. If you need help finding a drive or installing a drive, I can help with that. Just let me know.
For thing like DVD burner drives, Windows XP/Vista offer universal support, meaning that it won't matter that you own a Dell computer, you can buy any DVD drive and it will work.
I recommed the following for $51. It also comes with software to support burning DVDs, just in case your current software does not offer this feature. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106248
I have a Memorex 52x CD burner. It bought it new and had no problems until about a year after I purchased it. Then suddenly, for no obvious reason, the drive would not open. The light flashed and I could hear the gears trying to open, but it would not consistently open. If I repeatedly pushed the button, eventually it would open.
What I finally discovered is that as long as I keep a disc in the drive, it will open and close with no problems. Now I keep a blank CD in the drive at all times, and so far the problem has stopped. I suggest keeping a blank CD in the drive so you don't lose a "real" CD forever (or have to destroy the burner to get it out). I don't know if this will work for everyone.
I DO NOT suggest inserting a credit card as another poster suggested. I tried this and it DOES NOT work. Plus you risk breaking the drive and destroying your credit card all at the same time (thereby delaying the purchase of a new one). Besides, credit card simply doesn't fit into the very small space around the tray door.
Based on other people's comments and the problems I've experienced, I'd suggest that people avoid buying Memorex products altogether. I bought this drive because my old one died and I was looking for a cheap burner to hold me over until I could afford to replace my computer. I may have saved a little money, but in the end I got what I paid for. My sympathies to anyone who's also experienced this problem.
