Hi, I took my plasma 42" daewoo in for service. It had a vertical line right down the middle. I paid 60 and they said daewoo discontinued the part i need. They said it's the main panel (Picture tube for plasmas) part number is 485om06110 pdp. Do you think it's the panel? If so is there a universal part i could buy after market? Thanks!
Attempting the solder fix is a big undertaking, gaining access to the components is a MAJOR undertaking, and probably not worth your while.
If it is simply one line you might try the baseball Bat fix....
In reference to the "basebal Bat fix" it works on occasion by using percussive force to realign the ribbon cables.
DO NOT use a baseball bat, but use a rubber mallet and with the power off tap gently directly above and below the offending line.
Its worth doing this if yo cannot live with the line.
If you can live with it, leave well enough alone!
There is a youtube video that documents the repair of similar symptoms in a Hyundai set

I haven't tried this kind of repair but given that plasma TVs usually run hot (especially the cheap ones w/o fans), I'd think this has a decent chance of working. Just use a nice temperature controlled soldering station (Weller/Ungar), keep the solder tip temp just high enough to melt the solder and most importantly - use a dab of solder so there is some flux to re-wet the solder joint. If you don't add any solder, the joint will just fail again.
Whatever you do, don't try to fix it like the youtuber with the baseball bat.
It could be the panel but it could also be the ribbon cable that attaches to the display from the X module. It is a major job either way.
