Need info on fan for RCA HD50LPW42 TV

I have an RCA HD50LPW42 projection TV that sounds like the fan bearings are failing - noisy during running and a loud noise when it shuts down. Before I open things up and start poking around I would like information on what to expect - is this a standard 100mm or 120mm muffin fan or is it "special"? I have not been able to find any service info online, I would appreciate any link to a suitable replacement fan and/or a service manual.

I will rate responses appropriately.

Regards,
Bob Headrick

I could google for the fan if I knew the spec's. Do you have a part number or any other information that would narrow things down? I would like to get the fan before I open it up....

tv makes a (saw ) like noise when power is on.once tv turns off noise stop.i notice that it has 2 fans, one is the lamp fan the other is the dmd fan, where can the noise come from.can something else be causing the problem. need help

I have the same problem. it started happening a while back then the bulb went out. I replaced the bulb and it was fine, for a while. Now it is making the "saw" sound again, but worse and more intense. I took the lower back covering off and completely dusted it. I figured the noise was coming from dust build up nicking the fan wings, but I was wrong. I narrowed the noise down to the fan that is to the left of the bulb. This fan is concealed inside of a gray box. Before replacing the second fan I am going to dig a bit further into it. Any suggestions?

Thats a DLP and those fans are noisy. Most of those fans are special and I don't think I can recommend a dealer but you can Google Electronic Parts and pick one. They will need the Model Numbers as well as the Chassis number. There is no guarentee it will be any quiter for very long. You might check with some local TV shops and see if any of them have a good used one. DLP's go bad all the time and many times it's the light engine and the fans are realitively new.

Fan # AFB0812LL, is very load and needs to be replaced. Where can I get a new fan?

Jameco has an equivalent fan that will work:

https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&productId=662661

I ordered two, one for a spare. Connect the yellow wire that is on it to the blue wire that is on the TV/original wire. black to black, red to red.
The fan is a 80MMX80MMX25MM 31CFM. The above is a 36CFM plus has a longer life hydrodynamic bearing.

I just bought the HD50LPW42 from someone he said it needs a color wheel. When I turn the TV on the green light comes on but I don't get any picture. What is a color wheel and is it needed to just watch the...

Most DLP TVs have a color wheel. This allows the TV to be manufactured with a single chip to control the color for each spot on the screen and a white light source. As the wheel rotates, the desired color light gets transmitted to the screen. This happens so fast that most people do not see the screen refreshing each color.

Here is one source for a color wheel for your TV: http://chaparral.shopjimmy.com/catalog/product/view/id/200632/s/rca-color-wheel-212184/ . This is a part reclaimed from a TV that was damaged in shipping so it was only used during factory testing. The part number is RCA 212184.

Usually the symptom of a failing color wheel is the TV being very noisy on startup (a whining sound) followed by it shutting down. Although other problems can be involved - for example a power problem going into the assembly with the wheel (there is a motor that turns the wheel).

I hope this helps.

RCA HD50LPW42. Sound so loud it sounds like a jet engine coming from TV (very loud whining sound). I assume this is my color-wheel, but I'm not sure.Turns off when TV turns off.

You need a replacement color wheel or have yours rebuilt since the RCA color wheels are on nationwide back order. You can get your wheel rebuilt at the following link

Vertical lines appear on screen...

You have a defective light engine. Contact RCA support. Sometimes they will warranty these even after the 1yr warranty has expired.
