Sony KDF-46E2000 - Screen Goes Blank

Hi, I have this TV that I purchased around November 2006 and I just started getting the problem. I was watching TV when out of nowhere the screen went blank and then a second later the sound cut out so there is nothing on the screen but the green POWER light blinking. It looks just like what happens when you first turn on the tv.

I pressed the power button and the green light went off and the fan stopped going. I waited a little and then turned on the TV and it worked for a few minutes and the same thing happened. This time I just let the screen stay blank and the green light blink, and after a while the green light went away and a solid red one came up under LAMP. I pressed the power button and the TV came on for a few seconds before the screen went blank and the green POWER light started blinking.

I guess the lamp is the problem, but I'm not sure as I can't find the manual. Does the lamp only last this short amount of time or is this another problem?
I bought mine in September 06'. It won't turn on green light flashes for about fifteen seconds and then the red lamp light flashes until I unplug the TV. Can''t believe it only lasted two years. Ridiculous. KDF-46e2000

You definitely have a bad lamp. Sony rates the lamp life at between 4000 and 8000 hours. There are 3 things that effect the lamp life, listed in order of importance:
1) number of times the lamp is turned on and off. Every time the lamp is first fired, it takes life off the lamp. Customers I see that turn the TV on in the morning, leave it on all day and then turn it off on the evening can get up to 12000 lamp hours
2) ventilation. Be sure you have at least 6 inches of open space all the way around the set and that the vents are clear of dust and debris.
3) power. If the power is interrupted when the set is on, there cannot be a proper cool down cycle. The fans will run after you turn the set off to properly cool it down, if the power is lost this cannot happen. If your power is unreliable, buy a small UPS to let the set finish a cool down cycle

Occasionally a lamp will faill before the average lamp time due to being defective. from your purchase date it sounds like you got about average lamp time. Be sure to purchase AN ORIGINAL SONY LAMP as a replacement, becuase the aftermarket lamps are bad news, Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

While watching the TV the screen goes blank. The LCD light is still good.

If lamp has not been replaced in last 2-3 years, get it replaced now because existing lamp is dying and causing problem.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual of your Sony KDF-E60A20 tv.

Screen goes blank intermittently on 60in Sony Bravia KDS-60A3000

I am having the same problem with my Sony. I bought it at Circuit City in November 2007 and the extended warranty, which I thought was for 4 years, has expired. Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you resolve it?

Sony KDF 3LCD Screen has a horizontal orange tint stripe at top

This problem is caused by a defect in the optical block. It causes about 1 - 1.5" tint usually green, orange, or yellow at the top of the screen. The part is very expensive, retails around $600-800 usually. You cannot fix it without replacing the optical block. They did have an extended warranties for this particular issue because of a class action lawsuit on certain models. Call Sony to see if your model is one of the ones they extended the warranties.

TV only stays on for a minute. Screen goes blank for about 2 minutes. Then the picture pops back up on the TV. Model number is KDF-E55A20. Sony Wega HDTV. Made in 08/2006. Please advise....

I think TV on for minute or so, goes to standby and again power up, show picture for minute and again standby.
If above are symptoms then its time to replace lamp in TV.

Let me know if symptoms are different.

Sony KDF-46E2000 - Screen Goes Blank

The lamp can cause the picture to cycle without spitting out a lamp error. I'd replace the lamp and clean out the dust/dirt from fans, etc to hopefully resolve your issues.

Sony KDF-46E2000 - Screen Goes Blank

Ok, the solution for all our problems is in fact the lamp. I finally replaced my lamp and no problems to report. Sony should do something about this because I know I didn't have 8,000 hours on the lamp and it sounds like no one else has either. I tell you what, I'm NEVER buying another Sony product ever again. Not only did I have this problem but I bought a Sony Blu-Ray disc dvd player and I've had nothing but problems out of it. I keep getting firmware updates for it but it doesn't help and recently I bought a Sony Walkman MP3 player and for no reason it quit working, it would power up and immediately power off. Sony did replace it though (but of course it was only $70 compared to the prices of the tv and dvd player).
Anyway, if you are still having problems with your tv, the lamp door is on the right side, pop it open and there will be another door with a knob on it. Turn that knob counter clockwise to unlock it and pull it out. Inside that door you will see the handle for the lamp, put your finger through the loop and pull up and out at the same time, to put in the new lamp, push lamp straight in until it won't go in any further and puch down, it should then be locked in place. Replace both inner door and outer door and you are good to go.
Someone mentioned something about cleaning the dust from around the lamp. I tried that before I got my new lamp. It only worked for a day and gave out again. Hope this helps.
