"Installer not found" in Oregon Trail 3

After putting the CD in my computer and bringing up the game window, I click on the "Install" button. However, either the computer will verify that I began the action and then do nothing, or an error message will come up, saying, "Installer not found." The CD is one that we used to play on our old computer, so I know it's not defective. Help?

The software may not be compatible with the operating system on your new computer.

If you've now got Win7, the help pages do offers suggestions on how to install software intended for older operating systems.

You could try to playing it compatibility mode. To do this, right-click the game, click Properties, then click the Compatibility tab and check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility for:", then choose what to run it under. This may or may not work, but hopefully it will.

SOURCE: Oregon Trail 4th Edition won't install on xp

You better dig that old Win98 machine out of the closet and fire it up. Oregon Trail doesn't want to install properly even when you run the install and set up in Compatibility mode (95 or 98). There is some issue with the version of DirectX it wants to use as well.

I can install Oregon Trail 5th edtion but it won't run. Why not?

This game is fairly old, and very likely may be incompatible with newer Operating Systems. Be sure to check the label on the box.

I've installed, uninstalled and re-installed the OT5 cd several times but it still won't start the game. It just givves me an error message. Is there another solution or is this a defective CD?

have you tried to install thru control panel-add program
or thru my computer, put cd in cd or dvd drive,, then go the the drive it's in, right click & go to open or explore & see if you can find the setup file or install, if it still doesn't work, you might consider taking it back,

I put the cd rom into the drive and nothing happens. I go to click on the icon under my computer and it causes the window not to respond.

Confirm that the CD drive is not a CD-ROM dive and the CD you are trying to open is is not a DVD. CD-ROM drive wil not open a DVD ROM and in some cases will cause the system to stop responding if youtry to run it.

Cannot play Oregon Trail 3rd edition after install

Since you own a copy of the game, it is legal for you to go and download a No-CD crack. There should be many online, simply go to google and type in the Name of the game and No-CD crack. You should be able to find one, they also typically come with instructions on how to use them.
