I have a jvc everio gz-hd7. I am trying to use it with my Adobe video suite, Visual Communicator, VlogIt and Ultra so I can shoot live time green screen video. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. When I connect my Cannon Z85 through a fire wire, all is right with the world. However, when I connect my JVC GZ-HD7 through the fire wire, the software sees the camera but there is no video and I have no controls for the camera in the software. Any thoughts? Thanks, [email protected]... oh yes... I didn't see a place to register on your web site so I'm not sure how I will know how to find your response. Thanks

Hey Brett, unfortunately FCP and iMovie are looking for a device over Firewire or a capture card (whichever you have set up). The driver off of the disk is actually quite useless under any Mac Os 10. Video editing programs unless older or PC based rarely use USB for video transfer hence why none of the apps are locating the camera. Unfortunately you'll have to transfer the files via USB as data and use a program like MPEGStreamclip to transcode them to a file format those programs will understand. JVC has released updated software but it seems to do nothing at all. I hope this helps.
P.S. you may need the MPEG 2 Codec to do the conversions wether you're using MPEGStreamclip or another application.

Unfortunately, the JVC HD7u does not use the DV/HDV standard, it's a Hard drive based camcorder so it uses it's own proprietary Mpeg2 standard. So when you hook it up via the FW400 cable, you don't get the same response as you would with a non hard drive based camcorder. If you still want to do this with HD video, you'll need to invest in a capture card, if you don't mind using the SD signal, you can use the Pass through feature on the Canon z85 to connect the HD7 to your computer. I will admit I may be wrong as i've only tried this on Vista and Mac Os X, have you ever successfully used you're HD7u with the FW connection on any previous versions of Windows, such as XP or NT?
