First open up the sound properties icon on the taskbar and verify that nothing is muted. You can download and install the Audio Drivers for the Inspiron 1420 at the link below.

You can download the audio and device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Try the following *Check weather required driver for your DVD drive is installed or not(in Windows 7 it automatically installs drivers) if yes.......try this.....
*If you are using Windows operating system Go to Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Device Manager>select DVD/CD drivers>Right click on your name(Name appears after clicking arrow beside DVD/CD drivers option)Ridht click on your device name>Select enable

It must be a Volume device drive problem,please try to update your volume device drive software,find your original dell Inspiron 1420 volume device driver software or download it from www.dell.com

do a system restore from the time when everything was working fine.
start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore

from here download the bluetooth driver..

driver is wrong.try to install sound card with original cd driver.

Check to make sure it is enabled in the BIOS.
