Riccar 8700 Brush Roll

I have a slightly old Riccar 8700 vacuum cleaner. Still has great suction, but my brush roll doesn't have enough torgue to spin the roll on carpet. Even flat carpet, like in schools.So, if I can get any feedback, that'd be great.

Greetings,

I will attempt to walk you through the belt change on your Riccar 8955 upright vacuum cleaner. I have taken pictures for you for each step to ensure that it's done properly. What you'll need to have handy for this repair;

- Phillips Head Screw Driver
- Riccar 4000 / 8000 Series Belt
- Riccar 8000 Series Roller Brush With Clutch Assembly (only if the brushes have worn down, not necessary if brushes are still long)

Step 1: Make sure the vacuum cleaner is unpluged, and turn the vacuum cleaner upside down so the bottom plate is upwards. It's easiest to do on a work bench or counter top.

Step 2: Unsrew the two metal screws on the metal bottom plate with your Phillips head screw driver, and remove the bottom plate from the vacuum cleaner so the belt is completely exposed with the roller brush.

Step 3: Remove the belt guard that sits to the left of the roller brush, and is a metal part that protects any dirt & debris from going over to the belt. Here's a picture of that part being removed;

Step 4: Remove the Rug / Floor actuator arm from the clutch on the right hand side of the roller brush. Simply pull the metal actuator arm to the left of the brush and out of the circle that it sits in. Here's a picture of that;

Step 5: Once you have removed the actuator arm for the clutch, as well as the belt guard, lift staight up on the roller brush and remove the roller brush from the vaRiccar 8700 Brush Roll - bec4491.jpgr:

Step 6: Once you have removed the roller brush, and the old belt from the vacuum cleaner, take one new belt and wrap it around the metal pin in the back of vacuum cleaners agitator housing. Here's a picture of where that pin is loRiccar 8700 Brush Roll - f76bd31.jpgthe belt wrapped around it;

Step 7: Once you have the belt wrapped around the metal pin (this is the shaft to the motor that actually spins the beltRiccar 8700 Brush Roll - 68efbd6.jpgother end of the belt through your new roller brush;

68efbd6.jpg
Step 8: There is a specific way that the roller brush has to be inserted. If the roller brush is not put in properly, this can cause all sorts of problems including the brush not spinning, and continously having to replace belts. You can see on the end cap of the roller brush (the right side where the belt rides) that there is two littlRiccar 8700 Brush Roll - 96719f8.jpgt protrude out of the end cap as well as an indentation on the opposite side;

96719f8.jpg
Step 9: With the roller brush inserted through the belt, posistion the two teeth facing downwards. You can see in the vacuum cleaner where the roller brush sits, a little groove down inside of the housing. These two teeth need to straddle that groove. Also make sure that the little ring, or circle that the clutch actuator arm sits into, is facing upwards completely. It should be directly on top of the two teeth. Stretch the belt using the roller brush as leverage down into the agitator housing of the vacuum cleaner, making sure that the two teeth are facing downwards straddling the little groove. After the brush is back into the vacuum cleaner, take thRiccar 8700 Brush Roll - 837f4a1.jpguator arm from the rug / floor switch, and insert it back into the metal ring (or hole) on the roller brush;

Step 10: Replace the metal belt guard that rests to the left of the belt. You'll notice on the belt guard that there are two little 90 degree notches on both sidRiccar 8700 Brush Roll - 72dd966.jpgotches need to face towards the belt or to the right. Here's a picture of the belt guard being put back into place;

Step 11: After inserting the belt guard back into the vacuum, turn the vacuum cleaner over so the top of the agitator housiRiccar 8700 Brush Roll - 91e54c7.jpgg you. Change the the rug / floor switch from bare floors to the carpet setting, and the turn the vacuum upside again so the brush and belt are exposed:

Step 12: With the vacuum set to the carpet setting, pull the belt forwards to ensure that the brush is spinning freely. If the belts do not spin freely, repeat steps 2-10.

Step 12: There is a flap that can be opened after the metal bottom plate has been removed, that will give you more access to the motor shaft. Make sure that this flap is closed;

Step 13: The last tricky part can be reinstalling the metal bottom plate. There is a little lip on the front of the vacuum cleaner that the edge of the bottom plate has to slide under for it to be installed properly. A lotRiccar 8700 Brush Roll - d49e2d9.jpgjust install the bottom plate over top of this lip, and this prevents the brushes from hitting the carpet as low as if the bottom plate is correctly installed. Here's a picture of the lip with the bottom plate in the backgroud;

Step 14: Slide the metal bottom plate into the lip on the vacuum cleaner, and fasten the screws back iRiccar 8700 Brush Roll - 381c631.jpgtom plate to secure it. The lip is a little tricky, but after doing it just once, you'll have no problems in the future changing your belt.

The belt is probably stretched out. put a new belt on it and it should run better.

Loss of suction from base but ok from hose. filter cleaned and dried

Hello,

When the Cyclone Assembly on the Dyson is not spinning around, it usually means that you are loosing suction somewhere. This can either be caused by a clog, suction leak, or dirty filters. I will give you detailed step by step instructions along with pictures on how you can diagnose this.

Possible Problem # 1. Turn the vacuum cleaner upside down so the brush roller is facing upwards. I found the easiest way to work on it is to put it on a counter top or work bench. On the left hand side behind the roller brush you should see a flexible transparent hose that goes from the motor to the agitator housing. This hose actually has a lot of strain on it when the vacuum cleaner is in the vacuuming position with the handle down. When the first few series of Dyson DC07 models came out, they didn't make this hose long enough, so when the handle was in the reclined position, it would put too much stress on the hose, and cause the hose to actually crack, usually right where the end of the hose that goes into the agitator housing. Examine your hose and see if you have any visible cracks in this hose. If you need to you may just remove the entire hose assembly by pulling on it. It will easily come right out of the machine so you can inspect it better. Here's a picture of where the hose usually cracks:

If you do find a crack in this hose, the this hose needs to be replaced. Here's a direct link to that hose on our GoVacuum website.

Possible Problem #3. Dyson's in general are prone to clogging. There are a few clog ports throughout the vacuum cleaner that were added there due to Dyson prototypes becoming clogged at these points. Here are pictures of how and where to check for these clogs. Simply remove the suction port covers at both of these locations:

Riccar 8995 no suction

If it's been over a year since you've replaced the belt that is the first place to start. Stretch belts lose elasticity and will still turn the brush roll but when the brush roll is lowered to the carpet it may not turn fast enough to pick up properly. If you have good suction at the end of the hose check to make sure there is not an obstruction in the tube where the hose goes into the bottom of the vacuum to the brush roll. Make sure your filters are replaced at least once per year and the bag is not full or has a lot of fine powder dust in it which can clog the bag.

How to change belt of riccar vacuum rsl3

Remove the bottom plate after laying the vacuum upside down, make sure it's not plugged in first. Pull the brush roll out of the nozzle housing, put the new belt around the motor shaft and then the brush roll, pull on the brush roll to give you enough leverage to install the brush roll back into place, reinstall the bottom plate.

I have model#UD40350 total pet compact. The lower vacuum brushes don.t turn.

Hi! It sounds like you have a broken or stretched belt. The belt controls the brush roll. If you are using the vacuum on carpet, you need the brushes to spin to agitate the carpet fibers. Below are step-by-step instructions on how to replace your belt. I have also included a link to the instruction manual if needed.

1. Lay cleaner flat and flip to expose nozzle base. To remove nozzle guard, use Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws.
2. Lift and remove brush roll and dispose of old belt if you see one.
3. Slide belt (style 19) onto motor shaft.
4. Place new belt on area of brush roll without bristles.
5. With new belt in place, pull and slide brush roll into nozzle making sure that the brush roll end caps are in the correct orientation.
6. Replace all screws to replace nozzle guard.

Air not getting to hose

I'm not sure which model you have but this is good for Riccar upright vacuums. If the hose has good suction but is not picking up well check the suction tube that is down by the brush roll. The suction tube starts by the brush roll and goes to the back of the vacuum where you put the suction hose into. If it has a clog or restriction the vacuum will not pick up properly.

Riccar 8625 doesn't seem to beat carpet but the brush is turning

Your 8625 is well over 20 years old. If it's been over a year since you've replaced the belt start with a new belt. Belts lose elasticity and should be replaced at least once or twice per year. The brush roll will still spin and appear to be working fine but when you put the brush roll onto the carpet it will stop spinning fast enough to clean the carpets.

Low suction on Eureka spinduster vacuum cleaner

The belt has stretch enough so as to not drive the brush roll under load. Try a new belt.
