Well you did all that wrong, sorry.
first go to HP and get all the drivers there first , matching your PC your OS and your wireless.
that is first ,then load W7 and install the HP drivers
or use the HP media kit and all that works at once.
here is what to do.
get ethernet working first. wired.
then when connected, (via above) download the HP driver for wifi.
or if lucky the W7 , OS , sees wifi missing and gRABS THEM FROM microsoft PnP severs, it most do.

there are only 2 ways to fix this.
1: use ethernet let PNP work
2: force feed he driver,s, (using sneaker net)
go any pc get the driver, at HP put in on usb stick
then load it to your dead pc,
end story, same for all PCs made, same story,
if silly toy notepads with no Ethernet jack (sad) only #2 works.

here is short page on no internet
very short but accurate.

SOURCE: HP DV6000 no wireless internet

Hard to say when I dont know the exact model.

If it is an Atlantis(DV6000-6499) it is most likely the mainboard, and it might be coverd by an extended warranty.

If it is an Ares(DV6500-6999) you should try updatigng th BIOS first. If that doesnt help i would go for another WLAN card. It might also be a defective mainboard, but that doesnt happen as often on Ares models as Atlantis.

doesn't sounds like you can find drivers for windows 7, but you may want to install the XP drivers on your computer instead (which might work just the same)

Why does Wireless hardware switch not work, light stays orange and will not enable WiFi?

step one (guessing #4 down fails)
  1. are you at home, Starbucks ,air port or at work, (who's wifi)
  2. do other wifi devices work there., PC, TV, cell phones on wifi or ?
  3. if yes,#2, then move the laptop closer t the wifi router.
  4. If no and device manager shows 701 errors "? that means the drivers are wrong even infected not using HP.com drivers for your unstated OS. windows 7?
  5. on my HP laptops, it takes 2 drivers from them to work wifi,
  6. the wifi card driver must match (of up to 3 or more used new)
  7. and must have the control panel BUTTON driver working to control wifi.
  8. did you up grade it W10 and now wifi is dead , ? oops!
dv6-2155dx , seems was window 7 new, and frozen there,.
HP has no support now for this old PC. (besides asking on THEIR FORUM)

HP has short list of wifi cards they used, and only those work
HP blacklists all other non HP cards (unlike wonderful DELL)
so wrong cards are doomed to fail., as is w10
the correct card (1) is here
Intel 5100 512an_hmw Half Mini Pci-e WLAN WiFi Wireless Card 572507-001 for HP Laptop. for windows 7 only.
802.11b/g/n WLAN

SETTING UP A WIRELESS PRINTER WITHOUT A WIRELESS ROUTER - WINDOWS 7
Install Virtual Router first "Turn any Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 Computer into a Wifi Hot Spot."
EditByBSEditor: Virtual Router turns any Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 Computer into a Wifi Hot SPOT using Windows 7's Wireless Hosted Network (Virtual Wifi) technology.
The Wireless Network Create/shared with Virtual Router uses WPA2 Encryption, and there is not way to turn off that encryption. This is actually a feature of the Wireless Hosted Network API's built into Windows 7 and 2008 R2 to ensure the best security possible.
You can give your "virtual" wireless network any name you want, and also set the password to anything. Just make sure the password is at least 8 characters. http://www.brothersoft.com/virtual-router-327895.html Then install Connectify-Me Connectify is an easy to use software router for Windows 7 computers. After downloading and installing the lightweight application, Connectify utilizes your computers' built in Wi-Fi card to wirelessly share any available Internet connection: a cable modem, a cellular card, or even another Wi-Fi network. Other Wi-Fi enabled devices including laptops, smart phones, music players, and gaming systems can see and join your Connectify hotspot just like any other Wi-Fi access point and are kept safe and secure by password-protected WPA2 Encryption. http://www.connectify.me/ Then reboot computer

MY LAPTOP DOES NOT CATCH ANY WIFI SIGNALS

methinks that you need to check these two items first

a. look for a physical switch along the sides of laptop(could be sure if the model number were here) and turn it on

b. open start/control panel and look for wireless icon click on that and ensure it's active

if that does not work then make sure you have one installed

start/control panel/system icon

opens panel go to device manager(should be upper left first option on list)

look for network adapters

see if wireless is listed

if it has a yellow ? mark then you need to right click to uninstall

go to top of that panel and scan for hardware changes

may need to restart computer after this segment is complete

Cant See Preferred Wifi or Connect,

Having gone so far, I think the next thing you should do now is to get to the wireless properties and then assign an IP Address, Subnet mask and the Default Gateway for the Internet and you will be amazed to be connected. If you have not disabled and enabled the wireless device you may do that before proceeding to the step above. The pc should be restarted after the exercise ok. Good luck

Wireless does not show up in Network Connections

Did you try - after switching on the "antenna switch" or WiFi hardware - to "Enable" the WiFi adapter, under (XP) Start - Settings - Network Connections - LAN or High-Speed Internet - Wireless Network Connection? (select, right click and select Enable)?

p.s. Once your WiFi hardware is recognized (by Win XP) there is (should be) always a "Wireless Network Connection" in your Network Connections, enabled or disabled, active or not.
