RCA 20" TV/DVD Combo - DVD Player says discs not compatible?

DVD player was great then for some reason it wouldn't play DVDs. It either says that there is no DVD inserted, or it says that the DVD is not compatible. I tried several cleanings and different DVDs, but it still won't work. Does anyone know how to fix this, or if it can be fixed. Thanks for any advice.

Does it work on store bought DVD's?If it does it means it's not compatable with homemade dvd's on pc's or other recorders. If it dose not you have a dirty lens.If a lens cleaning cd doesn't work, the dvd deck has to be replaced, probably exspensive.

Mine is Sony DVD player..I insert a disc and it says "CAN NOT PLAY THE DISC" and then the player shuts off. The other DVD works fine.

HI,
Check the manuel some DVD Players do not support DVD RW or -R +R formats. When Ifirst put my burned movie in I got the message that the player cant play that format Just ignore that and advance the Video to where the movie is starting then all my burned movies played fine. My Pioneer BD 51 FD does support DVD RW +R -R formats so be sure that you can play burned DVD RW +R -R on your Sony player. I was in Wal Mart the other day and they had some DVD players on sale but on the box it said that they do not play DVD RW +R or -R Burned DVD's so be careful if you do buy another one I went to best buy and found mine. Check first it will save a lot of hassle later. This software works great but it may not play in your DVD Sony Player there is a list here of compatible DVD Players

your disc is scratched or a pirated one

American DVD discs will not load and play, but overseas discs will

no the coding would not change from using the dvd's from overseas. the ones that you say are american may not be american and that is most likley the problem. try putting in a dvd that you have had for a long time that you bought here in the states and if that works then the dvds you say are american are the problem.
