It would be easier/cheaper to buy another foot pedal.
The older style had "leaf" switches in them and they are adjustable from below the foot control. There are 2 screws underneath each switch. Loosen up the one closer to the front of the pedal (just a little) and tighten the one in the back the same amount. This will raise the angle of the switch to make it more sensitive (lighter pressure to activate).

Model 4220/4228: when the on/off switch in turned on the machine runs without the foot petal being used. Could the foot petal need to be replaced?

Likely either the foot pedal is sticking and not fully extending to the off position, or the foot pedal has failed, or the problem is with control board inside the machine.

As a test, hold the foot switch fully open with a hand or hands, then turn on machine to see if problem goes away.

If problem goes away, then likely its the foot pedal, but could be all that is needed is cleaning the foot pedal so it fully opens by itself. It might also be possible to stretch the spring inside the foot pedal, but I don't know.

If still same issue when holding foot pedal fully open, try unplugging the foot pedal from machine and then power up. If it still runs with foot pedal disconnected, then likely the problem is the control board inside the machine and not the pedal.

Foot pedal does not work for my Dictaphone model 2750 Where can I purchase a replacement

Make sure the foot pedal is plugged into the SIDE of the machine and not the BACK of the machine. I've seen many people make this mistake...

Foot pedal won't work with hands free microphone

The 3750 won't let you control the telephone record jack. The only way you can get a mic to work using the Tel Rec jack is by pressing and holding the 'Tel Rec' button for about 1 second. But this isn't compatible with the hands-free operation.

If you're looking to do hands-free recording, it uses the built-in conference mic. Press and hold the 'Conf Rec' button for about a second and it should start recording. This built-in mic is located on the right-hand side of the machine near the front by the headset jack.

If you want to control the machine via a foot control while in Conference Record mode, you'll have to change the 'Foot Control Dictate' setting in the menu. Here's how:

1) Press and hold the 'Erase' & 'Search' buttons for about 5 seconds until the menu appears.

2) Scroll through the options until you get to 'Foot Control Dictate' and set this to 'Yes'.

3) Press 'Stop' to exit the menu.

4) Press the 'Conf Rec' button to enter record mode.

Now you should be able to control the start/stop of the record function via the foot control.

Hope this helps...

Foot pedal FF or Rewinds when pressing Play

It's possible that there's a broken wire in the cable that connects the foot control to the machine. This usually happens near the plug that plugs into the machine, or by the end that goes into the foot control.

You can usually duplicate it if you put the auto-backspace up a bit and then hold down the play pedal on the foot control. While holding down the play pedal, try moving the cable near the machine or near the foot control in a circular motion. If the machine stops, rewinds or fast forwards, then odds are that the problem is with the cable.

Dictaphone Expresswriter 2740 Tape Won't Move

The problem is with the capstan motor. More than likely it has developed a 'flat spot' and won't spin up. The clicking noise you hear is the solenoids trying to pull the heads into place, but because the motor isn't turning, it can't pull the heads into place.

Pedal problems

If the tape re-winds when you take your foot off the pedal then the auto-rewind switch on the right side of the machine at the back is set to number 3. Move it forward to number 1 or 0. If it really does rewind while your foot is on the pedal then I don't know what is causing that. Sorry.

Dictaphone MicWiz

Catherine, did you ever get an answer for your problem with MicWiz? I am a transcriptionist that works from home and they are having problems getting it to recognize my foot pedal (as well as another MT) with the new software. It is recognized by Express Scribe and ever other system we use, but not Merge.
Thank you, Cindy
