The door handle broke off of mine too. What a piece of junk. We need to make things in America again.

Mine did the same thing.anyone know where i can get a replacement?

  • friyefam Feb 27, 2009

The bigger problem here is that Maytag did not make it possible to buy just the handle!!! You have to buy the whole door which is cost prohibitive!

To replace the handle, normallyyou have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo)and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Door handle broke on my Maytag MMV4205AAQ microwave. It broke once before while under the first year warranty so I know that repair requires replacing the whole door.If I purchase the part (PS909599), how...

Hi ,

There is a inner door trim on the inside of the microwave door that can come off to expose the screws for the handle. This trim is held in place by clips built into the trim, ( some older models may also have screws - look for them and remove before going any further ) the tabs on this trim can break easily but with a putty knife and some patience, the trim can be removed to get at the handle screws. See picture help. This trim can be pushed so the clips will "pop" back into place after the handle repair.

I have a whirlpool mh1150xms-3 and the handle is broke! how do i replace it without breaking the glass? i took out the 3 screws on the left side and it wont seperate from the outside case!

Unplug the microwave oven from its power outlet or turn off its circuit breaker. Remove the right fuse from the home fuse-box if your microwave is a built-in model.

Open the microwave door and take the top pin off its pivot bracket. Lift up the door and remove it from the bottom bracket. Lay the microwave door with its front side down on a folded towel. Remove the two choke screws from the door frame using a Phillips head screwdriver.

Remove the choke cover with the knife blade, starting from the microwave door's top right corner. Pry out the bottom and top right sides, leaving the side which houses the door handle in place.

Remove the choke tabs from their slots on the microwave door frame using the knife blade. Continue to work clockwise around your microwave door; remove the choker cover when you get to your handle's side to separate it from your choke.

Remove the two handles with the Phillips screwdriver. Remove the handle from the microwave.

Screw the new handle in the position of the original handle. Lay the choke on the microwave door; set the choke cover right on top of it. Insert the choke tabs into their slots on the microwave door frame using the knife blade.

Secure the two choke screws using a Phillips head screwdriver; set the microwave door back on the bottom bracket. Slide the top pin into the microwave's pivot bracket.

Press the top pin down until it pops securely into place.

Broken handle on maytag stainless steel microwave. Do not wish to purchase complete door assy. Could possibly substitute a black handle. Model MMV5165BAS. Kindly advise

around the inner side of the door between the window and outer frame is a plastic shroud,by gentle prying it out using a flatblade screwdriver starting at the handle side working toward the hinge side it will pop off and the screws that hold the handle can be accessed and remove and replace the handle. to reinstall that shroud gentle push it in with your fingers
you can go to searspartsdirect and enter in your model number exactly as found in the mw cavity and order the part or perhaps look in your phone and find a appliance parts dist. in your area

Model mmv5165bas Door handle is broken - how do I replace the handle? Thanks JEFF

If your full model number (from the tag in or on the unit) is MMV5165BAs, then you'll have to replace the entire door.

If your model is one of these, the handle is available separately, with part numbers below:

MMV5165BAB14 or MMV5165BAB15 black part number W10189508

MMV5165BAS14 or MMV5165BAS15 stainless part number W10187840

MMV5165BAW15 or MMV5165BAW16 white part number W10189509

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

You can find handy exploded views and order parts by model number here.

Tappan Convectionaire stove with built in microwave. Purchased in 1985. This is the 4th time the handle on the microwave door has broken off. We were able to replace it in the past, but I cannot find it...

we have the same tappan oven/microwave combination. We are looking for the knobs for this. Its a great oven, but we need these parts. Our microwave handle broke a long time ago and we had one made from wood. If you are going to ditch the old oven would you be willing to sell the knobs?

The entire door handle snapped off

I have the same problem- funny when we built we went all Maytag and got a bunch of lousy handles- the stove, micro, fridge, and freezer... I glued the pieces of the handle together and used plumber's putty to fix it. It's MightyPutty, but without the repackaging and cost. Just knead the putty until mixed, fill the cavity of the handle and press on the door where it was... No problem after six months so far.
