I just installed a kohler 12RESM! natural gas generator and after starting, will run to high revs and then shut down, the code on the display is U U
Any advise, my gas pressure in is 8"wc.
Your gas pressure is too low and you may not have a large enough supply pipe. You need at least 10 inches of water column with the engine running to operate an LP vapor fueled engine. Because the engine is starving for fuel, its governor opens the throttle to WOT (so it goes to high revs) but there isn't any fuel to make horsepower with so the output voltage falls and the undervoltage alarm trips.

I have a 12 RESL also, but my problem is a bad alternator and a good engine. I've been looking for an alternator. If you haven't been able to fix your problem, I'd like to work with you.
Kohlers generators have a few things common in all of thier products. One is the overvaltage circuit on their main control boards. Usually can be fixed. Also if you ever go looking for repairs or think you have an issue, I can save you a lot of time and money.
Company from pa repairs a lot of items down to component level.
Flight systems.
If they find your board is okay they only charge a fee for testing.
If they do find a problem, they will charge a fee cheaper then buying a new board, and issue a warrantee in it too.
You might want to check out their site for troubleshooting, schematics, etc.
The same thing happened to me me last night. Got a UU error code. Air temperature was 15 degrees below zero in upstate New York. This morning we took a propane "tornado" commercial space heater, opened up the generator housing and directed the heat inside. Apparently there is a great deal of moisture in LP gas lines and this froze in the carburetor. The heater took care of it. We had to speak to many friends until we got this fix. Going to buy this for my generator: Kohler - GM39564-KP1 - Carb. Choke Heater for 12 RESL

The Kohler generator unit was preset at the factory and needed almost no adjusting. Out of the box it produced 120 volts on one phase, 123 volts on the other phase, and a rock solid 60 Hz. I had to bump up the voltage by 3 volts to match the load - and that was it.
I carefully read over the warranty info again and it turns out that Kohler cannot deny me warranty service if someone other than an authorized dealer/distributor performs that startup function

I also have a 12RES Kohler generator. It has operated well for two years, but for the last two weeks has been shutting down about thirty seconds after it starts to exercise. It also shuts down about thirty seconds or so after I start it manually. The oil level is OK. I am not sure about the natural gas pressure in the system, but it has been below freezing around here during the times I have had the problem. After it shuts down, mine also reads UU and then 52.0. I have had a HB (high battery) reading for almost two years, but that never has caused it to shut down and has never stopped it from exercising on schedule. The battery charger has a green light on it. I suspect low gas pressure, but the local gas company tells me that they are keeping it up. Not sure of this.

20kw generator revs up and slows down constantly, sometimes quitting. checked air filter, changed plugs, checked valves, checked connections on control board. The governor works constantly. This unit runs off natural gas.
