SOURCE: beeps, wont boot up

Most of the time when it beeps, and there is nothing show on the computer screen, it is a RAM problem. A stick of ram may have gone bad. If you have two sticks of ram in the computer, you can try to remove one stick at a time to see which one might have gone bad.

SOURCE: Can't boot up Dell 5100 Dimension, amber light flashes

When you mean the amber light, is that the blinking hard drive access light or the power light? Different cases have different colors on it. Mine has blue and green lights.

If you see the boot screen (bios) and then after it goes to boot, does it blink and hang?

This could be a simple operating system issue, hard drive or hardware/motherboard issue. If you could provide more information, that would help.

SOURCE: Dell Dimension 2400 won't recognize DVD-ROM drive as Boot Device.

Enter the Bios and under System Components find the Boot priority in the Bios and move the drive to the top of the list, also you can press F12 at Start up to select it as well. :)

PC boots up then screen goes blank

You are asking for trouble by placing programs that Windows uses on the other drive. You are better off using the 1 TB drive as a system drive. Sounds like your OS is corrupted.

System restore:
To use System Restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state, follow these steps:
  • Log on to Windows as an administrator.
  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
  • On the Welcome to System Restore page, click to select the Restore my computer to an earlier time option, and then click Next.
  • On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.

  • On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.

Dell dimension wont boot up to windows..

Use System Restore

To use System Restore, first restart the computer by pressing[Ctrl][Alt][Delete]. When you see the message Please select the operating system to start or hear the singlebeep, press [F8] to display the Windows Advanced Options menu. Now, select theSafe Mode item from the menu and press [Enter].

Once Windows XP boots into Safe mode, click the Startbutton, access the All Programs ' Accessories ' System Tools menu, and selectSystem Restore. Because you're running in Safe mode, the only option on theopening screen of the System Restore wizard is Restore My Computer To AnEarlier Time, and it's selected by default, so just click Next. Then, followalong with the wizard to select a restore point and begin the restoration procedure.

Describe your dell dimension E521 wont boot and Problem my computer turns on but doesn't open it goes to a black screen with little flashing bar in top left corner nothing new was installed but there...

The 123 lights on tower translates as:

Routine system activity subsequent to video initialization.
Watch your monitor for on-screen messages.

Disconnect the video cable from the computer and see if you get floating color bars on display. If not, your monitor is defective.

Windows xp screen appears on Dell dimension 3000 desktop. It tries to boot up but then the screen goes black and just sits there. How do I fix this? I need to just get my data files off.

When you first turn on your computer, start pressing the F8 key about once every 1/2 second until you get to the boot menu. From there, select "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking" (if you want to transfer files via network connection). The rest should be pretty self explanatory.
