Nikon D50 reading a Low Battery?

I got a Nikon D50 a couple weeks ago W/out a charger. It was reading a Low Battery, and saying a "CHA" error message, which I fixed myself after reading up about it (the SD Card). I got a charger now, a Nikon Quick Charger, and I charged the battery for about an hour. It's still saying low battery and won't let me access the Menu screen at all. I got the Cam from my sister and she says it might be the battery reader inside, she got a new Cam, but had gotten a new battery for the D50 first, to try and fix this problem before she had given it to me. No luck. Any help or suggestions with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

The 'CHA' message I already fixed. The underlying problem now, is my camera is reading/saying 'LOW BATTERY' after I put in a fully charged battery. Could it be my battery is dead? (but my camera still turns on, just not fully, like I can't access the menu screen) Or could it be my charger? (when I put the battery on the charger it flashed until it stayed lit, hinting it was charged) Or could it be the inside of my Cam where the battery goes, like not reading that the battery is charged? The camera/battery isn't fully dead, it still turns on but just enough to let me know that the battery (which I've charged) is dead. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Why does my Camera say 'low battery' when the battery is being fully charged before inserted in camera? Camera problem? Fuse problem? I bought a new battery and same problem!??!!?

After reading the D50 manual, it says if a low battery icon is blinking the battery may be exhausted and to replace it. I'm going to try buying a new battery, again, and see if this is the solution. I'll post back if it works or not for future solution seekers.

The SD card has nothing to do with your problem. Make sure that the battery is good; i.e., it is both taking and holding a charge. If you have a voltmeter, look at the back of the battery just under the three electrical contacts. You will see that they are labeled "-", "S" and "+". After charging the battery, measure between the "-" and the "+". It should measure 8 volts DC. Then measure between the "S" and "+" and it should also measure about 8 volts.
Next, you need to see if a short circuit in the camera is loading down or draining the battery. Put the battery in the camera. Keep the camera turned off and leave it overnight or for a day and remeasure the voltage. If it has dropped more than a 100 mv (0.1 volts) the problem may be with the camera. If that is the case, you will need to send it in for repair.

SOURCE: Nikon D40 Error Message

Get the kit changed. That should not happen right out of the box, but make double sure the next time around, you charge the battery completely before using it the first time. Not doing this can cause problems.

SOURCE: my Nikon D50 camera says

It thinks that the SD card is full - try re-formatting if you have no photos there. The SD functions the same as a PC hard drive, and if the directory 'tracks' are corrupt, anything could happen. Else try a new SD card.

SOURCE: I have a Nikon D50 with an error message "CHA"

This error indicates the following:
This card cannot be used (CHR) blinks.
Problem(s)
Error accessing memory card
Unable to create a new folder (on card)
Card has not been formatted for use on D70

Try another card
Format the card using your D70 (all images will be erased)
Check the card for visible damage or poor contacts.

You may have inserted a memory card that was been used in a different camera or the formatting process did not complete successfully.
I hope this helps.

SOURCE: What does

You haven't provided enough details to be sure of the problem, but I suspect you have either bought a new memory card that is either the wrong type or too large for that camera. If it is still the original memory card that you first used with your camera, try reformating the card.

Nikon D50 Digital Camera. I cannot take a picture, the letters CHA are flashing on the screen.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't do it, try a different card.

D50 cannot use a 4gb card??? I use 1gb, 2 gb and no issues, now bought a 4gb card and get a CHA indicator on camera and will not shoot pictures. Can this camera be programed to accept a 4gb or larger...

No, the D50 will not (as you've discovered) accept an SDHC memory card (anything bigger than 2gb is SDHC). I haven't found a firmware upgrade for the D50 to rectify this issue, either. I own a D50 also, and love it, but bigger cards would be nice.

Memory not working in my D50.

The D50 will only accept up to a 2gb SD card. Cards of 4gb and larger are a newer type of SD card, known as SDHC (secure digital high capacity). At the time the D50 was made, SDHC cards weren't on the market. In short, if it is larger than 2gb it won't work. There's also no upgrade that I've found to handle SDHC cards in the D50, either. I love my D50, except for the card limitation.
