Blue flame heater pilot wont stay lit

Are you holding down the pilot light button long enough for the heat sensor probe to get hot and turn on the gas valve? It takes up to 3 minutes

is there an 800 number for parts...mine is a (Red Stone vent-less natural gas heater)

Your pilot flame should be blue with a small yellow tip, and it should cover the thermocouple (a small rod in front of the pilot light). If the flame is too small and doesn't cover the thermocouple, it may be adjusted too low, or you have low gas pressure or you have a leak in your gas line coming in to the heater. If the flame looks like a lazy yellow flame, you are probably not getting enough air to the flame. Check that your air openings around the pilot are not clogged up. If the flame looks like a waving blue flame then you probably have excessive draft at the pilot. If the pilot flame looks good and covers the thermocouple, then the thermocouple might be bad. Is it the Pilot, or the main burner that won't stay lit?

The pilot has a little 'flame rod' in the path of the pilot flame, that conducts a tiny current thru the flame, to a detection circuit-- assuring that there is a pilot flame-- If that rod get's dirty, it can cause false trips. Is that any help?- Mack B

Flame sensor possibly. Does the flame look normal?

you could have a overdraft problem causing your flame to go out. check your draft setting at the burner and make sure it's not open too wide. If it is, simply close it it slowly and make sure that the flame remains totally blue.

Tap pilot head to knock off any built up corrosion and rust and flame will get better and keep pilot lit

Check the gas valve. Sometimes the springs in the valve can wear out.
Another thing is the pilot itself. Inside the pilot is a little rod that stays heated to ingnite the igniter. It can become dirty or corroded and won't allow the pilot to stay lit.

Blow out the dust from the pilot and reposition the pilot where the flame hits the tip. more

Here you'll find parts to repair your heater. a propane heater uses a millivolt generator to sense the flame. along it's cappilary are two push on spde connectors. these connect to the high limit temperature sensor which is mounted on the flame backplate of your heater. to see if it is the high limit shutting down your heater, jumper across the two spade connectors. if the heater stays on, this is your problem. if the flame still goes out, then the millivolt generator is shot.
