Computer software when I open some ducuments I get a message "buffer overrun detected" and the program closes. What can I do?

If I am writing a Word document, sometimes the message comes up and closes the document.

It also happens when I try to print a document, or occasionally when I am about to send a document.

What kind of documents are you opening? Word documents? And what program are you referring to that closes?

You may want to run Word through maintence mode to see what is going on here, if it finds any issues it will attempt to repair it.

To do this:

1. Quit all Office programs. 2. Use one of the following procedures: • In Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, click Start, and then click Control Panel.

• In Windows 2000, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Open Add or Remove Programs. 4. Click Change or Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office 2003 (Microsoft Office Word 2003), or the version of Office or Word that you have in the Currently installed programs list, and then click Change. 5. Click Repair or Repair Word (Repair Office), and then click Continue or Next. 6. In Word 2003 and in earlier versions of Word, click Detect and Repair errors in my Word installation or click Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation. Then, click to select the Restore my Start Menu Shortcuts check box, and then click Install.

When I try to open Call of duty it apperas the error 998 and the message buffer overrun detected

Any time I've seen this error appear when playing a game it is caused by a bad graphics driver. I would suggest going to the website of the retailer that your graphics devices comes from and updating to the most recent driver and giving it a shot.

Many different things can cause buffer overruns. This is a common attack that hackers use to exploit bad C code. In this case, since it's a video game...I'm going to say graphics driver.

You can actually see an example of the same behavior here:

I hope this helps! If this did help you, please give a thumbs up!

Buffer Override Detected

A buffer is a place to store data. You have a buffer overrun when to much data is sent to that place. It is used a lot by people who write virus programs and try to start a virus. It would be a good idea to check your entire drive for virus. The above link explains the same thing.
