WPA is a very secure method of protecting the connection between your device and the router. I would guess that the DS will only support WEP, which is a much less secure encryption system.

If you want to connect your DS you will need to log on to the router and enable WEP security.

You will then need to enter the password you set in the previous stage in to the DS.

Ds lite wi fi connect wpa

Try changing your WiFi encription to WEP or no security, this should be available on your cablemodem/router web internface (need a user and password for that) under the Wireless/Security option.

DS Lite is not compatible with any other WiFi encription for online gaming: "Important note about the Nintendo DSi and WPA security: While the Nintendo DSi is compatible with WPA security, Nintendo DS games with online play still require the use of WEP or no security to connect with the Nintendo WFC. Therefore, your connection settings for using these games must be set up on slots 1-3. The Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite are not compatible with WPA security. Please note that any changes you make will affect other devices that connect wirelessly to your router.

The access point's security settings are not supported by the nintendo DS

This means you've got a WPA/2 security connection on your router/access point, whereas the Nintendo DS only supports WEP or open encryption.
You can:
1) change your security from WPA to WEP on your router
2) Purchase a used nintendo wifi stick
3) Set up a second router or access point with WEP security specifically for your DS

How do you get the internet on this my says no compatible access point in range check your connection setting under internet opion and try again error code 051099

Unable to use your wireless signal
Likely cause: It appears that the settings entered into the Nintendo DS are not compatible, or the router's broadcast settings should be changed.
How to fix: Try creating a new connection with your system. Nintendo DSi owners trying to play multiplayer games will want to be sure to read the "Trying to play online multiplayer with Nintendo DSi."

  1. Create a new connection: This error can occur if a setting (like your network's name) has changed since you last connected. If it's been awhile since you connected, or if this is your first time connecting, creating a new connection file will often resolve this error code. Click the button below for your system and we'll walk you through the connection step-by-step.

Trying to play online multiplayer with Nintendo DSi
Even if you are able to connect online and use other online features of the Nintendo DSi, if you are attempting to play multiplayer games but are receiving error code 51099 when you try and connect, then your router is likely using a security type - WPA - that is not compatible with Nintendo DS Game Cards.
Try this:
If you are sure you are using WPA, click here for more information including alternative connection methods. If you're not sure if you're using WPA, you can find out by going into the connection settings on your Nintendo DSi and doing a search for an access point. Follow these steps:
  1. Turn on your Nintendo DSi and access the System Settings by clicking on the wrench icon

mr_fix3er_0.png 2- Scroll over to the third page, and select "Internet."

  • Other suggestions :
  • Make sure your router is set to broadcast in "b" or "mixed" mode. If your wireless router is transmitting in "N" only mode, you will need to switch it to "b/g" or "mixed" mode. For help accessing your router's settings, click here and select your router brand and model (if available). Most routers will have this setting in the "broadcast settings" menu.
    • Check for wireless interference, which can affect the signal strength to the Nintendo DS. To help minimize wireless interference, try the following:
      • Make sure other wireless devices such as cordless phones or wireless speakers are turned off, and that the Nintendo DS is an open area without objects or electronics blocking the signal.
      • Change your router's channel setting to 1 or 11. By default, most routers broadcast on channel 6, which overlaps with other channels and may be weaker. For help doing this, click here and select your router brand and model (if available). The information you need is found in the "Broadcast Channel:" area.
  • Still stuck? We can help! We have found that simply erasing the old connection file and creating a new connection to your router may help. Click the button below for a step-by-step guide. I cant haave internet on my ds lite

Nintendo DS handhelds will not work with WPA wireless encryption, only with WEP, or with unprotected wifi networks (not advised).
Check your router settings to see if they conform with the encryption allowed with the DS.

My ds lite wont connect to our internet i have a wireless router the ds says the security settings are not supported by the nintendo ds

WPA and WPA2 are not supported by the DS Lite, only WEP and unencrypted wifi connections are. There is no known way at the moment to make the DS Lite support WPA of any form so your only three options are to go to WEP encryption, use no encryption (not recommended), or set up an adhoc connection on a computer with that is connected to your router that has internet connection sharing enabled.

All it says is the access points securty is not supported by the nintendo ds

this means you are using a newer form of wifi security
    • Note: WEP Security is the only option for multiplayer gaming on any of the Nintendo DS systems.
WEP - If you wish to secure your wireless network, the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite are only compatible with WEP (Wired Encryption Protocol).
WPA - The Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DSi XL, and Wii are compatible with both WEP and WPA security.

    • Known Compatibility Issues - Most wireless routers are compatible with the Wii console and Nintendo DS systems. However, our experience has shown the following devices may be incompatible:

ensure that your wireless router is not using wpa protection. If it is go into your router and change the wpa security to wep and you will have no problem connection.

When I was trying to set up a Wi-Fi connection to my Nintendo DS, I got a message saying the security settings are supported by the DS, and that I should check Nintendo's support page. I Checked the...

more then likely the wireless router will work with the DS. You'll just need to make sure you enter the settings exactly. You should just be able to put a wpa-psk key in your wireless router and on the DS.
In the computer world just because something isn't supported, doesn't mean it won't work. It just means the manufacturer won't help you make it work.

    Cant hookup to wireless

The DS can only connect to unsecured wireless or wireless with WEP security. If your router is using WPA, the DS can not connect to it. I heard the DSi can use WPA but I have not confirmed that yet.

Note, I do not recommend unsecuring your wireless or using WEP. If you must use the DS wirelessly, it may be better to get a nintendo dongle/USB stick or another wireless router that you can lock down to prevent unauthorized access to your primary network.
