After removing the screws, remove upper card, by 2 screw this give you access, to see the battery but you CANNOT remove it from where you see it.
The only way is to prior the back on the screen up and out, this will give you access to the battery.
Also DO NOT disconnect the ribbon cables as you will stuff up the connections and they are plastic and will break if touch, there is a special tape on them to stop you removing them.
One tricky bit is to make sure when you remove metal bracket for the Tomtom release( bracket that seat on top of battery) to note which way you removed it, as it has to be relocate back on a pin within the unit housing.
This is the push button mechanism that you push to release the Tomtom for the window device.
You will need to remove the industrial type tape on both side of this bracket which is tape to the battery itself, before you can remove the battery via the screen area.
One more NOTE: The screen is probably the hard's thing to remove, just prior the outer edge real slow and easy with a screwdriver, the outer retainer need to move FIRST then the screen itself, watch out for the ribbon cable and circuit board at the rear of the screen, can be damage if you put the screwdriver to far under.
So better get assistance from professional people for removing the battery

Dear,
This solution can be used in the following situations:
• The device hangs in the start screen (splash screen)
• An SD-card with a red cross is displayed on the screen
• A picture with a red dot and white cross is displayed
• The device can’t be turned off
If you haven't already done so, please download and Install TomTom Home fromhttp://www.tomtom.com/7602
If you don’t have a full backup of your TomTom yet we advise you to make one before continuing with the steps in this email. You can make a backup by following the steps below:
1. Reset your TomTom device: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 and connect it to your computer.
2. Click on 'Backup and Restore -> Backup' in TomTom Home 2.0
3. Enter a name for the backup and click [OK]
• IMPORTANT: When the software is asking to delete parts from the backup click [NO]
After the backup is made you delete the files from the root directory of the TomTom. Follow the steps below to do this:
1. Reset your TomTom device: http://www.tomtom.com/6965 and connect it to your computer.
2. Open My Computer in Windows, or Finder in Macintosh from your desktop and turn on your TomTom device.
3. On your screen a new removable disk appears, this is your TomTom device, click on the disk to open it.
4. You will see a list of folders and a list of loose files
5. Delete all of the loose files. IMPORTANT: The folders with their content must NOT be deleted.
5. Close the window when all files are deleted by clicking on the [x].
Next we will reinstall the application via TomTom HOME.
1. Start TomTom HOME on your computer
• TomTom Home should automatically check for updates and prompt you to install them, if not:-
2. Click on 'Update my device'. If you get the message 'No Items Available', or there is not an application to download, click on 'Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc -> Items on my computer', select the application and click on 'Add'.
3. Select the Application update.
4. Click on 'Device -> Disconnect Device', then turn off your device when it is done installing and disconnect it from your computer.
5. On a PC, in the System Tray by the computer clock, click on the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon and disconnect the TomTom also in this way.
When switching on the device it should boot as normal again.

Several easy steps would solve the problem:
1. Make sure you have TomTom Home installed on your computer. If not, go to http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/application/home2latest/TomTomHOME2winlatest.exe
2. Hit the RESET for about 15 to 20 seconds on your GO720
3. Connect your GO720 to PC via USB cradle/cable
4. Hold the POWER button for 10 seconds or until you see a black and white boot screen, then release the POWER
5. Hit the POWER again, the GO720 will restart and connect to PC
6. RUN TomTom Home and the program will recognize your GO720 and install new navcore application.
If your device shows a flashing 'X' after you turn it on, the TomTom application is not installed or cannot be found.
To solve this, reinstall the application. Follow the steps below.
Tip: Data transfer may not work properly if the connection to your computer is via a USB hub or keyboard.
First, attempt the following: TomTom device frozen or looping.
TomTom HOME starts.
Then expand Applications by clicking the plus symbol and click Add.
If you never updated your device on this computer, click Update my device.
Important:
If HOME asks you to Unplug your TomTom device, try clicking OK first.
If HOME notes that a problem has occurred, click Back.
HOME offers to download and install the latest version of the TomTom application.
Your device should now start up again. If it hasn't started up after 10 seconds, press the On/off button
Lastly, if your device still only shows an 'X' after you turn it on, try formatting the internal memory or memory card of your device.

You will probably need to have the firmware flashed or updated. However, the good news is that your GPS is still under warranty. So in my honest opinion, the best thing to do would be to take it back to the store where you purchased it and ask them to fix it for you under warranty. Don't try to attempt anything yourself and screw up the device further and void your warranty.
Hope that helps!
Cheers!

Please refer to the following articles from Tom Tom website as well:
I think the reason you are having this problem is that you perhaps had an SD with the software, and it is missing now. However, I could be wrong. Please do read the articles above, and if you still have an issue, then take it back to the store.
Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions,
please post them here.
If you are satisfied with my solution or have no further queries, please take a

There is no battery. Please follow the instructions here:
Device shows flashing 'x' when turned on
Have you tried reinstalling the HOME software on your PC? And did you follow the instructions given here:
Device shows flashing 'x' when turned on?
If you've done evrything and it still does not work, take it back to the store and get it serviced/replaced under warranty. Dont try to open the device to replace the internal battery, or your warranty will be voided.

First try to remove the battery for 4 hours, this procedure will reset and restore the previous and default settings of the unit..
let me(*us) know here again...
IT WAS A INTERNAL BATTERY, AND ITS NOT ADVISABLE TO OPEN THE DEVICE COVER TO ACCESS THAT PART. IT SHOULD BE DONE BY AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE TECH FROM TOM2X.
BUT IN THE MOMENT THAT YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM TRY TO FOLLOW THIS FEW STEPS:Connect your device to your computer.
Turn on your device by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.
TomTom HOME starts.
In TomTom HOME, click Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc. and then click Items on my computer.
Then expand Applications by clicking the plus symbol, and click Add.
Note: The
application is only available at this location if you previously
updated it via HOME. If you never updated the application before, click here.Click Done.
In HOME, click Device > Disconnect Device.
Your device should now start up again. If it hasn't started up after 10 seconds, press the On/off button.
