I have a SONY FD Trinitron WEGA KV-40XBR800 TV that will not turn on with the power button. Sometimes it will turn on if you hit the power button and quickly hit the tv button,then it will turn on and work just fine, but this will not work all the time. When it will not turn on,the red standby light will blink 6 times continously. I would appreciate some help. THANKS, JOHN
Hello,For model KV-40XBR800,
Pls check following area.
Low HV Shutdown:
On the D Board.
Check IC8004/pin 7 should be 7.4v.
Check IC8006/pin 2 should be 2.5v if lower will trigger shutdown by causing pin 1 to turn on.
Check IC8006/pin 3 reference voltage 2.2v.
IC8006/pin 1 normally at 0v. If high
turns D5007 ON which turns the latch circuit Q6532,
Q6530, and Q6527 ON and turns the AC relay RY6501 OFF.
And NOTE: 6 blinks also can be Low B+ protection.
Unregulated 7.5 v from the power supply to 5v reg IC504 on the A Board. 5v to M Board Q2314
to CPU IC2300/pin 43. If 5v missing set will shutdown with 6 blinks.

My sony wouldn't turn on so I called a local tv repair; costs me 256.00 for a circuit mcz3001db(shindengen) works fine now but I think I was ripped off; however, I certainly can't repair myself what I don't understand, so left it to the "Pro" at least he left me the part so I know he really did change something. This has been a great tv so far.

know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've
described can't be fixed with troubleshooting.
Your TV
will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect
and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be
repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least
one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you
purchased an extended service
plan
they will repair the TV at no charge as well.
If the TV is no
longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and
labor. This is assuming that you only need one circuit
board
or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards,
the price of repair could go much higher.

Sony KDFE60A20 I have the same problem. Red power light blinks six times and TV set will not turn on. I am frustrated.
Yup! Same thing here...At first it would shut off and red light would flash for a while until the pic would eventually come back on. Then it got worse and wouldn't come on at all. The cost to fix it is more than the cost of the TV in 2002. How frustrating...I've already fixed it once for a seperate issue. grrrrrrr! Nice TV while it lasted. I'm going HD.
Mine developed this problem shortly after I bought it. I just dont turn it off. I switch to one of the videos, so the screen goes dark. Every now and then, Ill turn it off. Sometimes it turns back on immediately, sometimes it takes days. I hate this TV!
mine blinks 8 times I press the power button nothing and noonoe willcome repair it.
I have the same problem with a Sony kv-40xbr800.the standby red light(of death)blinks 7 times ,the tv degauss,makes several clicking sounds but it remains as dead as a door knob.
sony trinitron tv worked perfect..but after i turned it off..it will not turn-on..no redlight for power or anything..nothing....
pretty much the same problem,but mine blinks 7 times, sometimes 6.If I do get it to come on I'm afraid to turn it off cause it takes forever to come back.I even scheduled service and noone showed or called!
I just resolved this problem with the help of some of the postings on this site. Thanks! I ended up replacing both of the DIP IC's on the "D" board at a cost of $10. There are two Shindengen MCZ3001D on this board that have a high failure rate. I purchased a couple of replacements on ebay and now I'm all set. I highly recommend doing this only if you have experience in removing IC's from printed circuit boards. Otherwise you can cause more damage than you bargained for.
