Sony SDX560VRB AIT-2 Turbo Tape Drive - Internal IDE VERY SLOW

For years I have sucessfully been using a external USB sony AIT drive, I recently installed a new internal IDE Sony ait drive. It runs much slower than the old drive and REALLY slows down the whole computer! IE explorer takes 30 seconds to load!

Any ideas why?

Thanks a lot to you.

SOURCE: AIT ERRORS

I had/have a similar problem with a SONY SDX-700C.
Emailed Sony tech support (very helpful) who suggested sending them the diagnostics from their TapeTool utility (qv). They then recommended running the cleaning tape 3 times, which seems to get it working (but the 'clean me' light still comes on every 7-10 backups). Hope this helps.

SOURCE: When I insert a tape - it loads and displays

Try blowing the dust out.  If it needs more than that consider buying a new name brand unit.

Ive just bought an old sony dat drive SDT-5000 and want to use the external housing frome one I already have. Does anyone know how to set the jumpers? I can supply an image of this if it helps

supply an image (and would be great if you could supply image from old broken one and new one)

I'm a bit confused though: if you have an internal working sdt-5000 that you want to put into an external broken sdt-5000, it should be as simple as getting the enclosure open, then swapping the internal drives; i.e. external enclosures usually still use the same spec internal drive so it would just be an ide or scsi connector cable.

SONY VAIO PCV R53 39 DS WON'T BOOT UP

Pull the harddrive out, install in an economical external enclosure.
The external enclosure has a USB cable.

Plug the USB cable into any available USB port, on a working computer.

Go to My Computer, or Computer; and double-click on the drive letter, that corresponds with the external enclosure.

(Actually with the harddrive in that external enclosure, it is now an external harddrive)

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=PCVR539DS&LOC=3#/howtoTab

It's an IDE harddrive. Also known as a PATA harddrive.

A harddrive is measured across it's width.
2-1/2 inches across is a laptop harddrive.
3.5 inches across is a desktop harddrive. (3-1/2 inches)

So you need a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure.

AIT-3 Tape Ejects when they put in MSSQL 4027

You will not find the list of the error codes on the internet. I know that Error Code: 0x81 is a "Reel" problem as I was just told by Sony Support. You should call them, have you serial number at hand when you do so. Check http://sony.storagesupport.com/ for a Telephone contact number.
Good luck, Bruno

Lib-152E autoloader no longer recognized after firmware update.

Try taking the dives out, connecting each one to your SCSI card and updating the firmware - wait at least 10 minutes afet Tape Tools says you can now use it again! This last bit is very important! Then, after you have done the update to each drive, replace the drives and try again.
I had the same problem with a TSL-SA500C and it woked fr me.

Hi Paul

It sounds like you have bought the wrong media!

The AIT2 and AIT2 Turbo drives are NOT THE SAME !

for the AIT2 drive (SDX-500C/V SDX-520C/V) you ned the SDX-50C media as the turbo tapes are NOT compatible

If you actually have a turbo drive then you may have a load mech issue in thich case try www.tape-drive-repair for more help as they are good price wise

SONY LIB-81 Error on LCD screen - Drive Information 51

I think this sounds like the drive is having a issue loading and moving the tape in slot 1.
AIT units are known for having this kind of problem.
Try a cleaning tape and then a new tape fresh out the wrapper for a test backup.

if it fails with a known good tape then its time to send it out for repair
