I

1) If it is a manual focus lens, you need to turn off Autofocus on the body of your K10D. On my K100D, there is a switch on the side of the lens mount that says [-MF or -AF]. "-MF" is manual focus mode & "-AF" is autofocus mode. Since your lens doesn't have autofocus capability, turn it to the "-MF" mode.

Also . . . When I press "Menu" and go to "Custom Setting", I change two settings . . .

1) I change "Using aperture ring" to "Permitted". This allows you to use manual lenses (M lenses) that do not have an auto(exposure) setting, and also lets you use Auto lenses (A, KA, KA2, FA, etc.) in either the Auto or manual aperture setting modes.

2) I change "Fl with S lens used" so that even with a manual focus lens, although I don't have autofocus capability, my K100D beeps and shows a little red square in the viewfinder when I have successfully focused manually!

The K10D should have the same options.

This should get you up and running!

I have had a load of fun with my old lens on my new digital Pentax!

First make sure the MF/AF switch is set to AF(this raises the

    > autofocus screw and pushes the pin up). Then get an automotive feeler

    > gauge or some other small thin piece of metal(credit cards are too

    > thick, paper is not strong enough), and stick it between the body and

    > lens near where I have the little red arrow(you can also look back up

    > at the other picture of mine so you know where the AF screw is at).

    > You will feel the AF screw when you run into it. When that happens

    > try gently twisting the lens off, if it doesnt work keep moving the

    > feeler around in there, and trying to twist the lense off... always

    > be gentle, dont poke or twist too hard, you will get it eventually.

    > After you get the lens off you can follow my instructions above for

Here is the thread in dpreview that I learn about the issue and from
what I understands, if the AF quick shift is pushed to engage the AF
lock, the push of pin from your K mount may yield a kick/push on the
stuck lens and give you a bit of wiggling room to have a better chance
to free up your lens. Whatever you do, try to do it as patiently as you
can, there is no need to wiggle hard.

CAN NOT FOCUS THE CAMERA WITH OR WITHOUT MEMORY CARD

The memory card has nothing to do with the focus system. Not knowing what camera you have, I have to guess.
Check the camera is on Automatic. When it is a DSLR or system camera, check the AF / MF switches, both on the camera and on the lens.
Eventually check in the menu if you can switch from AF to MF and in any case, switch to AF.
Check if you can focus manual, or perhaps he camera can't focus at all. Then check if you did connect the lens correct.

My camera will take a photo in MF but not AF

And you are sure the AF MF switch on the lens is set to AF?
If so, check the contacts on the lens and in the camera. They should be clean and shiny and have on dent. Only clean with a dry cloth and cotton swab. Never use anything sharp in or close to a camera or lens.

THE AF AND MF ON THE LENS MEANS WHAT

AF=Auto Focus. With an autofusu capable body, the camera will automatically focus for you using preset focusing zone. Move the Switch to:
MF and it becomes a manual focus lens, where the photographer has to manually focus on his subject.

Auto focus on my d300 does not work

There is a [MF - AF] switch on the camera body where the lens attaches to it.
Move the switch to the AF selection.

AF = AutoFocus
MF=ManualFocus

Manual Focus won't work

Which camera are you using? If the body has AF/MF switch, put that also to MF.If this fails to help, take out the lens and try to change it to MF.

I BOUGHT A PENTAX K10D THAT CAME WITH A VERY NICE AUTO ZOOM LENS. I OWN SEVERAL OLDER PENTAX LENSES THAT I USED ON MY K1000 CAMERA AND I WANT TO USE THEM ON THE K10D. I CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE SETTINGS THAT...

Hello,

I don't own a K10D, but I do own a K100D which I have successfully used both manual focus & auto-focus lenses from my old Pentax stash!

Lens

If this is a manual focus lens, you will need to do two things (and an optional third thing.)

1) On the side of the camera, you have to switch the focus mode switch from "AF" (Autofocus) to "MF" (Manual focus) . . . Yeah. I know, you probably already did that. <grin>

2) When you press Menu, go to the Custom Setting and change the Allow aperture setting to on, so that the Pentax K100D will then work with manual control of the aperture ring. You need to do this or the K100D will not work with manual exposure lenses (M lenses) or even autoexposure lenses (KA, KA2, FA, etc.) when you move the aperture ring from the "A" position to one of the manual aperture settings!

3) This is optional, but in the Custom Setting you can also turn on the Fl in manual focus mode, so that even though you don't have autofocus capability, you will get a beep indicator when you have successfully managed to manually focus your lens.

I have a few nice manual focus lenses that I have a lot of fun playing with on my K100D.

Take care & Happing Imaging!

Pentax K100d super

I fixed the problem. It was caused by an extra little pimple on the sirius lens slipping into the auto focus indent indent on the camera body.

It is possible to get up to a ten thou engineers feeler gauge into the gap between lens and camera body although the one that did it for me was a three thou gauge.

I needed to cut the feeler gauge square at the tip and then, even though it was only three thou, I hit the tip by resting on a vice and tapping with the ball end of a small ball pein hammer. This caused the tip to form with a small curve. I then used a tool makers file to smooth the end down to almost nothing.

Turn the camera AF MF switch to AF to raise the screw. Fiddle the feeler gauge into the slot between body and lens just near the AF MF button and very gently probe the gauge. You are trying to get the little curve you made on the feeler gauge to slip over the pimple on the lens.

Its a very nice feeling when the gauge slips right in and the lens comes free.

The next proceedure, if you want to use the lens, is to unscrew the aluminium mount at the end and remove the offending pimple on the lens.
