The likely problem is that somehow one of the wires going to the speakers has "grounded out", meaning a wire for some reason is touching the car chassis, therefore shorting out the circuit the same way a lightning rod conducts the lighting into the ground, instead of your home.
A decent car stereo installer should be able to determine the problem. Either it's grounded out, which they can use a meter and connect the probes between ground and each of the 8 speaker wires to determine -or- the radio is faulty, and a new radio can be as cheap as $150, +fit kit, + wiring harness. Don't buy a factory radio replacement because it is a huge rip off and aftermarket ones are much better.

could be a short across your speaker terinals.are u using a seperate amp.got to be more specific on set up
some times in trunk metal from something might bre touching the terminal on speakers ,this will cause a muted affect also check to make sure you didnt mute the radio.

I had the same problem and here's what fixed it. By default, I did not connect the blue/white striped remote wire to the harness. Apparently there is an amp somewhere in the vehicle I did not know about. After looking at the factory wiring and the aftermarket harness, I noticed that the remote wire was used and I connected it with the remote wire on the harness and everything came up and worked perfect.

First be sure thet all wires are properly connected and that the units output sound controls are adjusted
(balance & fade etc.)
