Try sliding the power switch up and holding it in that position for about 15 seconds. It should reset.

If not- what specific model number do you have?

While they do not list your specific model number, that could be for a few reasons, however the basic process is consistent. If you do not have the slider switch for on/off, the general procedure to lock the devices are to press and hold the on/off switch for 1/2 second to lock or unlock and to reset it hold the on/off button down for 10 to 15 seconds. The literature I did look at indicates you will not lose music data.

My Sansa Express MP3 player does not show up on my computer as "Sansa Express" but is shown as Removable Disk (K:). Is this right

Normally your Sansa Express would show up as "Sansa Express", which would indicate that it is in MTP mode. The Sansa Express doesn't supply a menu option to switch to MSC mode, which would cause it to show up as a "removable disk". Apparently your Sansa Express has somehow switched to MSC mode. MSC mode is necessary for upgrading firmware, in which case it's called "recovery mode", and it's possible that some combination of key presses (usually involving holding down the power/hold button) put it into this mode.

If you double-click on "removable disk (K:)", do you see a Music folder? If so, is there anything in the Music folder?

Sansa express player does not respond, looks like it's off (screen is black) but when connecting headphones it makes the sound as if a song is paused, computer can't see it so its impossible to format. ...

Try and do what is called a Power Reset. To power reset the device, simultaneously press and hold the center and volume up button, while connecting it to the PC.
If this fails, charge the device for at least two and a half hours. The computer should not go into sleep or hibernation state while charging.
Then you may want to update the players firmware by downloading and installing the Sansa Firmware Updater.
