Bose Wave Radio AWR1 1W

Older Bose Wave Radio- Does not have CD

Radio powers up...display lights up. Everything looks normal. When you turn on the radio or aux (ipod) you don't hear anything right away, but after a few seconds you hear a loud screeching noise coming through the speakers. Buttons become useless.
Must pull plug to stop noise.
Plug in radio...start again...same result.
Any Ideas?

when powered on loud rumbling noise that is constant. You can't turn the sound dn or up and it constant. Only way to make noise go away is to power off...

I can tell you what to check if you know how to use an ohmmeter. But I warn you you could get shocked if you do not know what you are doing. The transformer has 3 windings, two are for DC voltages, and the other is 3V AC.Your meter can measure those using the AC scale. Next, check the voltage on the 3 terminal regulator IC. One leg will have 18V, the output will have 10V. Again please use CAUTION! Finally, the to-92 transistor Q1 is used as a 5V regulator. Check it (with power off and unplugged) for any shorts, especially base-emitter. If non of these ideas work, I would offer to buy your non working unit if you decide to get rid of it.

A CD is stuck in my bose system How do I get it out?

From an other web site

If you have a cd or two stuck in your Bose wave radio, here's how to remove it and save yourself $99. This procedure is for the radio (model AWRCC1 or similar) with a single front loading cd slot.

PART I
1. First unplug the power, wait a minute, and then replug power, watching the front display.
2. The display will read "Ejecting". If the cd ejects, then you're done and can skip Part II. If it doesn't eject and/or it displays "Disk error" then you'll need to do the Part II steps.

PART II
1. Unplug the power cord.
2. Turn the radio upside down with the front facing you.
3. Remove the 5 screws from the bottom plate.
4. Hinge the front of the bottom plate up no more than 2". Don't overdo this or you'll damage various ribbon cables inside. Use extra hands or a prop to keep it open this amount.
5. Reach inside and tilt-up the front of cd player's metal housing just enough to access the rims of the cd(s) within the space created in step 4.
6. Pinch the rim(s) of the cd(s) and gently pull it/them out.
7. Reverse these steps to reassemble your radio.

Enjoy your cd player again!

Why does my bose wave radio turns itself off every twenty minutes?

I am not sure how to fix your radio; but my wave radio wasn't working and I took it into a Bose store and got an excellent trade in for a new one. I traded a wave radio without a CD player for a new Wave radio with a CD player. I would take your radio into the nearest Bose store.

I have a Bose Wave radio AWRC-1g. The CD player

Yes you have a defective laser assembly. The 139 is a great price as buying the laser lens alone will cost you around 70 .Bose will also upgrade with any new software and will also provide you with a 1 yr warrenty.

How can I get the Bose Wave radio to work in Europe??

Yes. The tuner spacing option should do this. If it's a Wave Music System or a Wave Radio II, go into the 'setup menu' and look for 'tuner spacing'. -If it's older, you may want to call Bose for a solution.

My 10 year old Bose wave radio quit working.

There's a line fuse inside the radio, mounted on a PC board. CAUTION: disconnect the set from power before opening the case or poking around inside. The fuse could be bad, but these sets are notorious for losing the power transformer. If the fuse is ok then you are looking at a $100 repair fee from Bose. You might want to check out the new HD radios -- better sound, MUCH lower price.

Will not turn on

See if the problem is connected with the cord, then replace the cord.

No power

Unfortunately Bose will not release their schematics or parts lists, effectively giving them a monopoly on repairs. Their web site, www.bose.com, offers to repair most Wave radios for $100 or to give owners of broken sets a $200 allowance towards the purchase of a new Wave. Before spending the big bucks though, you might want to check out the new HD radios. Better sound and a MUCH lower price.
