Why wont long distance faxes go through?

There could be several reasons why your fax machine is unable to send long-distance faxes. Here are a few possible causes to consider:
  1. Phone line issues: Long-distance faxes may require a stronger and more stable phone connection than local faxes. If there is interference or noise on the line, the fax machine may have difficulty communicating with the recipient's fax machine. You could try calling your phone company to check the line quality.
  2. Fax settings: Check that your fax settings are correct, including the country code and area code. It's also possible that the recipient's fax machine has changed settings or is experiencing technical issues.
  3. Busy phone lines: Long-distance fax transmissions may be affected by busy phone lines or heavy network traffic. You could try sending the fax at a different time, such as during off-peak hours.
  4. Fax machine issues: Your fax machine may have a hardware or software issue that is preventing it from sending long-distance faxes. You could try resetting the machine to its default settings or contacting the manufacturer for assistance.
It's also worth noting that some businesses and organizations have implemented measures to prevent unsolicited faxes, such as blocking faxes from unknown or unapproved numbers. If you're still having trouble after checking the above factors, you could try contacting the recipient to ensure they are able to receive faxes from your number.

Do I have to dial 9-1 before the area code when faxing?

Hello, If you are in an office or corporate environment where the phone system is on a PBX you need to dial 9 usually to get outside the office. If you just have the unit setup at home or to an analog phone jack (not going thru a PBX) then just dial 1 + area code + number. If the number is local then don't use a 1, just the phone number and area code.

Will not fax long distance calls

fax machines do not chose this. who is your long distance carrier? you need to take an old single line phone and plug it into the fax line and call the number. you should hear a message from the carrier telling you information. then correct what they tell you.

I can fax to local numbers but not to long distance numbers. Phone company has no clue.

Your problem is how you have set up your long distance carrier. You may not be able to use your fax if you must first go through a phone card system. However, sometimes you can use enough pauses in your fax dialing to get through it. If your long distance carrier is your local phone company, they SHOULD be able to tell you how to dial.

Phone dialup-local phone service

You do not need a dial-up internet connection to use fax. All you need is a working phone line. Beyond that it works like a phone call (think of it as one fax machine calling another fax machine), so if your plan allows you to call locally only, then you can only fax locally as well. If you try to fax long distance, it may or may not work based on whether you can make a long distance phone call. Also, you will be charged for long distance calls if you fax long distance. These fees have nothing to do with Lexmark or whatever brand your fax machine is, it is the phone company that will charge you.

Faxing Long Distance

Hi,

To my knowledge, if the unit can send a fax message to another fax machine then it is safe to assume that there is nothing wrong with the fax.

Perhaps your problem may be more related to the type of phone subscription that you may have. Some phone providers have subscription for local calls only and restricted long distance. Alternately, there are some phones that would need a series of numbers to be pre-dialed before long distance access is granted.

Pls check with your local phone company. Additionally, you can try by calling long distance using your regular phone and see if it works. If it does, then long distance restrictions has been imposed/enabled in your Canon 3300. The procedures are better explained in the users manual. A copy of the user's manual for Mac users is here, all other downloads including those for Windows, is here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
