Wrong!! 4F means your printhead is defect. Probably by 3rd party ink. You'll have to replace the printhead.

Has the same error, power off & on like 10 times, tried internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button - it just beeped and repeated same error code. Unplugged it and moved it to another table to continue working on it - and when plugged back it - it worked just fine. Not sure if it was the physical unplugging, something wiggled in the move process or both.

Hi there
With some Brother printers you can try this.

Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, and then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart, hopefully without the annoying cannot clean message.


Some times this happens because of using cheap compatible ink cartridges if this is the case change the ink cartridges.

Error 4F means your printhead is RIP, mostly due to bad quality ink, the only one way to fx the printer is changing the printhead but... is that really worth it?

The printer have its own initialization but seem to fail to complete initialization process. Check and clear the carriage jam, open check for motor failure in the carriage system.

Sorry... Print head damaged. There is an very low possibility to erase the error without buying new print head, but it's unprofitable
