Same problem, I took the cover off and unit worked for a couple of weeks, now i have to bang on the unit again. Seems like an electrical short or problem with the logic board.

Replace the logic board. I have seen this problem in the field. More often than not it's due to power surge or lightning strike.

Craftsman model 139.53915D The door opener works on its own

The most common cause of this is a bad wall control or the wiring leading to it. Check for staples that have cut through the insulation of the wiring. The wall control just sometimes goes bad. You can eliminate both possibilities by removing the wire at terminal #1 on the rear of the motor unit.

I have Craftsman ½ HP Garage Door Opener Model 139.18458D. It reopens immediately after closing. Sometimes it works normally, and sometimes gives this problem. I have tried adjusting the close force,...

It sounds like the door is traveling too far in the down direction. When it hits the floor the safety causes it to reverse to the open position. You need to adjust the 'down limit' not the force.

Chamberlain Liftmaster bounces back up sometimes...

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit control'. Using a small screwdriver turn this control in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will most likely be necessary. You can remove the cover and watch the limit switch assembly and get a good idea how it works.

Worked great the past 2 years. Now, garage door

Remove the cover and take a look at the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. Most likely stripped.

Garage door opener quit working, wont open, light not lit,

Upon closer inspection I found that the power board had burnt. Weve had several power surges after the ice storm and apparently one weakend the unit. Price for the board (from craftsman) is like 80.00 and not knowing what else may have took a hit I replaced whole unit for 140.00.

Garage Door only opens with wall unitq

The unit is in the lock mode, push and hold the lock button in for about two seconds and the green LED should stop flashing. Your remotes should work.
