There can be quite a few causes for that.
Start by checking if the audio driver is installed and if the audio device is working (in the Device Manager).
You should also check the Windows Audio service, if it is not running you will not have sound.
Other than that, the basic sound settings need to be checked.

is this a bios password (you enter on a black screen with white writing) or your windows logon password.

If its your windows logon reboot, and before the windows logo appears hold F8 for safe mode. at the logon prompt clear the user and type Administrator for the use and leave the password blank. From there you can go to the control panel and clear the user's password.
