Document feeder appears broken in my HP officejet 7310

7310 officejet document feeder won't recognize paper: All of a sudden, I put a paper on document feeder and it doesn't recognize that paper is loaded.  There is no paper jam.  It just says copying 1/1 and then nothing happens!  Lifted the document feeder cover up and nothing looks odd.  What else can I do?

Sounds like I have a similar or the same problem. When I load paper in the document feeder and press the Copy button, the feeder does not take in the original, though the printer does spit out a blank "copy".

Thanks for the suggestion.  It certainly seems like what needs to be done.  However, these directions look a little complicated and I'd be afraid I would ruin something on my copier. I do not want to damage anything. It wouldn't help just to take a little alcohol on a cloth and clean off the visible part of the roller?

My 7310 aio will not recognize paper in ADF.

I have this same problem. I've cleaned the rollers as suggested on the HP website but to no effect. The plastic clip inside the feeder that is used to detect if a sheet is present or not seems intact and in the right place. It just doesn't seem to be communicating electronically with the printer, so it doesn't ever detect a sheet is loaded in the document feeder.

Sounds like there is something going on with the paper sensor flag that resides in the top cover of the automatic document feeder. Need to make sure it is moving freely. It is spring loaded so it should move freely and spring back in to place. Sounds like your may be sticking in the up position after a few sheets. When the ADF lid is down these sensor flags should go in to holes in the bottom of the ADF. Hope this helps..

Cover door for document feeder not closed

possible cause is that you have broken the DF door tail that senses the door closed. Check by opening the cover you should see a slit with either a switch in there or a light sensor. Push the switch down using small flat blade screw driver or if light sensor place a folded piece of paper in the gap.

Either one should then recognize that the door is closed.

Hope this can help and if this does work will need to replace the door.

Document feeder works for printing but not for scanning

Hi, When you had the doucment feed jam were you able to clean or remove any paper that might be blocking the paper to be scanned? It sounds like there is paper still in the document feeder , I would open the DF and check very closely to make sure no paper is in the way!Good Luck!

Document feeder

Its most likely to be the pickup roller and separation pad which will need replacing. as a short term fix try cleaning them with some isopropyl alcohol
