Ignition failure after three attempts then sits for an hour.

if furnace fires up then immediatly shuts off check the flame sensor. make sure it is sitting far enough inside the burner box and has proper continuity. if ur getting ignition failure without having furnace fire up, check proper voltage to hot surface igniter, continuity within igniter

Power is there, or no lights would blink. Steady blinking or flashing three times, stop, three times Etc

this could be a stuck compressor or a low voltage condition shut it down as the compressor is only getting hotter. wait about 1 hour and tryagain hope this helps let me know Jon

Furnace ignition controls will attempt to light the furnace 3 times with several minutes delay between each attempt. If it fails to light or the ignition module fails to detect it lit after the 3 tries, the module will lock out and require a "Hard Reset" to try again. It is a common feature in nearly all newer furnaces intended to let you know you have a serious problem. You should call a service technician for this because there are a number of things that may be causing this flame failure. Please grade my answer on how much I have helped you. The problem is called planned failure...it seems that most of the inducers will fail in that 6 year period no matter what you do... you can attempt to lubricate the bearings but it is very difficult and the heat from the usage gets to them....

Actually I have seen many fail in less time...most do not go that long... sad...

This indicates a open limit switch on the furnace, the heat exchanger is getting to hot therefore the limit switch is opening and not allowing the furnace to work properly. Did the techinician check the limit switch on the unit?

Heating Mode (Goodman Service Manual)

· The furnace control checks for an open main limit (this
limit is normally closed). If the limit is open, the furnace
will remain inoperable until the limit is closed. During
an open limit the circulating air blower will be
energized. The status light will blink four (4) times.
· The room thermostat reacts to a demand for heat.

· The control will then check to insure that the vent
pressure switch is open. If, at this point, the vent
pressure switch is closed the control will blink two (2)
times and will remain inoperable until this situation is
corrected.

· The venter blower is energized.· The vent pressure switch will close when it detects a
pressure in excess of its setting. If the pressure switch
fails to close the status light will flash three (3) times.

The sequence cannot continue until the pressure switch
closes.

· After a pre-purge of about ten (10) seconds the electronic
ignition device will be energized.

· After a slight delay the gas valve will open.

· The burners will ignite and the flame sensor will detect
the presence of flame. The ignition device will
deenergize. If the sensor does not detect the burner
flame, the gas valve will close and the ignition cycle
will be repeated for a total of three attempts. If, after
the third attempt, the presence of flame is not detected,
the furnace will go into a lockout condition for one (1)
hour. It will then repeat the ignition cycle. This one (1)
hour lockout and retry will occur indefinitely.

· Thirty (30) seconds after the main valve is energized
the circulating air blower will be activated.

· The furnace will remain in operation until the demand
for heat is satisfied.

· Once the demand is satisfied the venter will shut off,
and the circulating air blower will shut off after the field
selectable time off is attained.

· The furnace will remain dormant until the next demand
for heat.

I do not have the figures with me at this time. If the ignitor is slightly out of proper resistance range, it may not be getting hot enough the first time it tries after being idle for a while. I would need my chart from work and the model of the unit, but have your last tech check that. They can call for the proper resistance to the Goodman tech line at 888-593-9988. And, the pressures should be 11-13" w.c. input and 10" out to the manifold when valve is open. If the input pressure is higher than 13, the valve diaphram could intermittently lock up.

There is a chart with the wiring diagram and othere charts that will tell you what the 6 blinks are for. That should tell you what is wrong and what part you need. Sounds to me like the board has an issue or the gas valve is locked out.
