The DX7440 works with MMC and SD cards, which max out at 2GB. While your 4GB SDHC card fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work with this camera. You need to stay with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

SOURCE: Is the kodak easy share c180 digital camera webcam?

I won't say the camera is usable as a webcam because you will definitely severly shorten the life of the camera by using it as such. Firstly the camera is designed to take photos and short videos, NOT being left on continuously for use as a webcam. The heat generated by doing so could damage the delicate CCD (the part which collects light from the lens and converts it into electrical signals) Secondly most cameras are deigned to switch themselves off after a certain period of non use. Not handy for webcams.

Next there's the power issue. Unless you are using an external power supply for the camera you will be forever replacing batteries and for what an external power supply costs you could buy a proper made for the job USB powered WebCam complete with focus and sometimes zoom.

Next there's the mounting issue. Where will you mount the camera to give a well lit and steady picture of your face. Definitely not on top of the monitor due to extra heat generated by the monitor itself. Mix that with camera's heat and hello, and too soon, goodbye camera.

Webcams cost $20 if ou shop around maybe cheaper. OK your cmera will give a better picture but at the distance you're talking it won't matter. Plus you will need software to generate the webcam picture. MSN is a good webcam program. Plus depending on the output of the camera, usually only video. You may need a video capture card for your computer. The camera will give you a full screen image of what it's pointed at but you need a box to put a smaller picture in on the screen otherwise all you will see is one big face, yours.

So do you really want to wear your camera out prematurely simply because you can't afford a $20 webcam. The made for the job unit is cheap, will stay on all day and the power comes from the USB port. Everything you need and cheap. I think you know which way to go.

Good luck

SOURCE: I need to format my 4gb sdhc card for my kodak

Unfortunately you can't. The Z650 is designed to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card (the HC stands for High Capacity). While SDHC cards will fit into SD devices, they are electronically different and will not work.

SD cards will work in SDHC devices, but that doesn't help you here.

How do I format a memory card in this DX7440 kodak camera?

Go to Format by pressing the MENU button on your camera. You will see several options, one being 'Memory Card'. Press this, using your central button (on dial) and note that it will delete anything you may already have on the card ie if you used it for something other than the camera.

My kodak easy share camera is not allowing me to format a memory card when i insert it and therefore doeas not allow me to take photos. how can i format a memory card

Hi,

This sounds like the write protection lock is on. Take the card out of the camera and look on the left hand side for a small switch. slide the switch up and pop it back in the camera and see if it will let you format it.

If the write protect lock is off then the card maybe faulty.

Good luck.

Is the kodak dx7440 compatible with the sdhc cards?

Hi. Kodak DX7440 is using standard SD card or MMC card up to 1GB (some says it will read 2 to 4GB standard SD but I haven't tried). SDHC is high capacity, 4GB above and will not work on your camera.

Problems with formatting memory card

I'm guessing you're trying to format a new 4GB SDHC card? If so, am sorry to say that your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different.

You'll need to instead purchase a standard SD card (those that are 2GB or less). Forunately these are very inexpensive these days, with 2GB cards going for around $6 with shipping.

But if you must use 4GB, Transcend makes a 4GB standard SD card, but I can't guarantee that it will work with your camera as anything above 2GB for standard SD may have compliance issues.

Cant get my camera to format a memory card

agreeing with fixer1950. This model is in fact just designed for up to 2GB SD or MMC card.

When Easyshare one was released, 4gb SDHC was not yet created. You will always get the "memory card requires formatting" (looping until you get a file sys error msg) if you will keep on trying to use the 4gb.
