Map upgrade The original receiver had all maps of Europe & Scandinavia loaded. I have just ordered an update and find each area has to be loaded separately rather than together. So, I load UK / Ireland first and check it is apparently OK. Then add France / Benelux and find UK has disappeared. (Am unable to check if France is there as am in UK).

Eventually managed to speak to a man at Garmin who confirmed that it was not loading any European maps because it didn't have enough spare memory to load them all. He said that he would email me instructions for freeing up sufficient memory, the email never arrived but I decided to delet all the voice languages that were no use to me and all the other language 'help' files and tried again - it worked.
At no point did I get a 'insufficiant memory' warning, which would have been very helpful, nor is there any guidance for how much memory will be required when embarking on the update. Take note Garmin...

Look on ebay.co.uk medion maps, I paid £10 for latest maps great sevice. hope this helps am not connected in any way to seller. robert

Garmin offer new maps, the majority in different formats such as online downloads, pre-loaded SD cards, or on DVD.

However, these are pretty costly for all they are worth. For the same price as a map, you could easily buy a brand new device with full EU maps.

Some Sat Navs can't convert, If it's bought & set to UK & Ireland maps, then you are stuck. 2nd thing , even if you can use Europe Maps on your Sat Nav, you still will be unable, to load USA maps.
Sat Nav not compatable, You will have to buy a NEW ONE.

I just received the tomtom540xxls.Are the europe maps preloaded?
No, there are no Europe maps preloaded on the tom tom 540 xxls gps device. You will have to load the maps on it by yourself. The reason it is not preloaded is because, you might be purchasing the device in Canada and shipping it to any other destinations, therefore if a specific kind of map is on it, it might not be suitable for the area you are taking to.

Hi, anyone know if there is a cheaper way to update maps for western and eastern europe on a Tomtom Go 910? Mr Tomotom wants &70 and I may as well buy a new sat nav!
The only other way to get maps is to look for third party map files. Sometimes they are free. I've not tried to find one for my tomtom but have for my magellan. So if someone has done one then you just need to search the web for something like tomtom map download and the area covered.

UPDATE FOR NEXTAR GPS WHERE DO I GET IT

To update the maps for contact Nextar to find out if any new map information has become available. Their products are usually pre-loaded with USA/Canada maps, depending on the model. There is no current map update for Europe.

I would recommend you only do a map upgrade if you definatly need to as looking at other posts on this forum lots of people have problems after trying to update maps.
Updating maps is NOT FREE , you have to pay for updates and after downloading updates you need to reactivate the map with your product code . Only do an update after backing up your existing maps other sie you might have trouble reverting back if the download goes wrong.

Yes, this is possoble.

Make sure you:
- Have updated to last navcore v7 version
- Have updated TomTom Home to latest version

Then buy and upgrade map through TomTom Home...
